Wow. Pretty disappointing. Honestly, The Scorpion by John A. Autero just wasn't worth the effort. If you're looking for a new book review or a gripping read, I'd suggest skipping this one.

Terrible. Utterly bad. One-star-review bad! The author, John A. Autero, categorized The Scorpion as speculative fiction and a techno-thriller. It is neither. A thriller is supposed to be gripping and intense; this book is plain, boring, and the plot is completely flat. It is far from 'techno'—the author confuses the dark net with the deep web, clearly doesn’t know what TOR (the anonymization network) is, and actually thinks 'The Onion Router' is a physical device. He writes about nuclear power p...

If I rated books based on how quickly I tore through them, The Scorpion would be a guaranteed five stars. It is well-written, polished, and the action moves at a breakneck pace.John A. Autero delivers a gripping piece of science fiction centered on a U.S. government conspiracy that I’d like to believe is purely fictional, but with the way the world is today, who knows? The plot is anchored by a high-stakes road trip as three friends fight to outrun government agents.I was fascinated to discover ...

The Scorpion by John A. Autero is an excellent book! It takes a truly talented writer to keep the suspense this strong and steady for an entire novel. Wow! It’s everything I expected and more. What an explosive read! I loved it. The action is constant and escalates as the story works its way toward the very end. The suspense keeps the book in your hands and your eyes glued to the pages. This thriller delivers excitement on every single page, filled with surprises and unexpected twists that keep ...

What a great story! The Scorpion, authored by John A. Autero, is a compelling tale of conspiracy and espionage. It's conspiracy on steroids! The author provided a little of everything: snipers, high-speed chases, a high-tech memory retrieval apparatus, government cover-ups, and plenty more. Mr. Autero has a vivid imagination and has demonstrated a real talent for structuring such an intricate plot. The story starts out with an explosion at the Eggano Refinery, then Autero circles back to explain ...

The Scorpion is one of those books that is hard to put down, but once you do, you can’t help but constantly think about it. It’s been a while since I read a ‘good’ thriller, and I’m pleased to say this one turned out to be a ‘great’ one. The stripped-back, no-nonsense prose struck me from the start, and it serves the story’s subject of top-secret machinations perfectly. I was gripped from the beginning, and the author’s tense, claustrophobic prologue—where the gifted and prescient engineer Jerry...

Back in the days of Walter Cronkite, almost every American trusted the mainstream media. Why? Because the news was built on facts, not personal opinions. When Cronkite signed off with his signature, “...and that’s the way it is,” we believed him because we knew that was the truth. Today, the news is a mix of opinions and celebrity gossip, with most headlines feeling more like entertainment than journalism. Many have forgotten that the news was originally intended to act as an unofficial fourth b...

Eh...I’ve been curious about The Scorpion by John A. Autero for a while. I’d read good things about it, and the 4+ rating seemed promising. But unfortunately, for me, it was a letdown.Despite a mostly promising introductory chapter, I struggled to take the story as seriously as the prose seemed to demand. I’m not sure if Autero did this on purpose, but when the first characters you’re introduced to are not-so-friendly co-workers named Tom and Jerry, it kind of ruins the immersion and turns the b...

A conspiracy theory to end all conspiracy theories. The Scorpion by John A. Autero is a gripping read that pulls you into a world of high-stakes secrets. The story follows three friends working at a recovery site in Nebraska when Bruce discovers a server drive unlike anything he’s ever seen. He shows it to his friends, Pete and Bart, and they decide to take it to their friend Bleaker—a total tech genius. Once Bleaker plugs it into his computer, he realizes with horror that the drive contains cla...
