As a husband and Father, I do my best to keep up with my wife and four daughters. Each fall we pray for snow while riding horses through our nearby mountains. We ski on what comes until it melts. Then we inflate the rafts for a few float-trips, put shoes on the horses and start the cycle again. I’m lucky and grateful.E...

I tapped out after 30 pages. The writing felt flat, and there were a few minor grammatical errors, but the most egregious thing—the reason I DNFed so quickly yet felt compelled to write this review—is how the lead Black character is introduced. Eric Bishop, the author, introduces him by using a racial slur. This is immediately followed by another character comparing him to Mike Tyson in a derogatory way. If you're going to use an attempted lynching as your big action opener in "The Samaritan's G...

Owen James Cooper — “Jim” to those who know him — isn't a man you want to cross. A rancher in the heart of Wyoming, Jim carries the weight of a painful past. Friends lost in Kuwait during the Gulf War. His former flame, Sally, marrying someone else without a word. Jim has long accepted the solitude of bachelorhood, finding companionship only in the vast wilderness, the stars, his horses, cattle, the aging ranch hand Brody, and Sally's son, Skinner, who works on Jim's ranch. But everything shift...

Whoa!!! That was awesome!! This book is so, so funny AND it had my adrenaline pumping!! I couldn't put down Eric Bishop's *The Samaritan's Gamble* once things headed south around the 40% mark. And Larry and Brody are the best!!! If you're looking for a great thriller with some humor, check out *The Samaritan's Gamble*!

Life has a funny way of dragging people into messes they never asked for, and Eric Bishop captures this perfectly in his tale of reluctant involvement, *The Samaritan's Gamble*. Jim leads a simple life, a quiet existence overshadowed by a religion he doesn't quite embrace. But when thrust into a life-or-death scenario, he discovers just how deeply those roots, however unwanted, run within him. As a war veteran, Jim knows his way around a gun, much to the dismay of some mafia thugs who mistakenly...

Clean, no-nonsense writing, interesting characters, and a thrilling story. It's a great read for guys, but also enjoyable for anyone who loves thrillers, crime, cowboys, the mountains, horses, and mobsters. Eric Bishop's *The Samaritan's Gamble* delivers on all fronts. If you're looking for exciting book reviews, this one should be on your list.

A couple of freshman stumbles in the first few chapters, but Bishop quickly finds his rhythm and rolls you right along into a sharp, character-driven action yarn. Short chapters, believable characters, and a friendly, easy storytelling style immediately puts you in Jim's corner. Eric Bishop has crafted a real page-turner with The Samaritan's Gamble. One note, Eric: the landscape itself is a character in The Samaritan's Gamble. Let's see more of it in the next book. If done right, there's no suc...

So, I read a book over the last three days. That might not sound like a big deal, but I don't read books. Well, I don't read books very often. I have lots of books, but most of them are reference books and tutorial books. I read parts of them but very seldom sit down and just read a book cover to cover. I've tried, and I've had good intentions of reading, but it just doesn't happen. Three days after starting this book, I was done. I even found myself staying up late at night to read instead of ...

Eric Bishop masterfully blends Western and Thriller elements in *The Samaritan's Gamble*, creating an enjoyable and utterly satisfying thrill ride across the West. His evocative word choices will make you pause and smile, painting vivid pictures as clear as photographs. (Just consider the book's clever title, for example!) The characters are diverse and believable; honestly, I had a hard time picking a favorite. *The Samaritan's Gamble* kept me eagerly turning pages, and I genuinely dreaded the...

Jim Cooper, a quiet rancher and horse trail guide, thought he'd found peace in the mountains and some healing in nature after his harrowing time in Desert Storm. Jim doesn't realize the full extent of the consequences awaiting him. This...

When I was a little girl, I remember my great uncle Wave telling us a story about spending several days with the author Zane Grey. Grey had hired him to drive him around the Arizona desert. As they traveled, Grey would describe what he saw, and my uncle, with a manual typewriter on a tray in his lap, would furiously type it all down. Later, Grey went home and used many of these descriptions in a whole bunch of novels. Are you a fan of Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour? Then you’ll love this contempor...
