A brilliantly clever whodunnit featuring Miss Marple. It's genuinely surprising how utterly gripping a mystery novel can be when its lead is a seemingly frail old woman who barely leaves her house. If you love Agatha Christie and classic murder mysteries, grab "The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side" – you won't be disappointed!

Just finished another Agatha Christie, and I've got to say, I really enjoyed it. But seriously, *another* murder in the sleepy little village of St. Mary's Mead? Why would anyone choose to live there?!This is a fantastic story centered around the glamorous movie star, Marina Gregg, and one of her devoted fans, Heather Babcock. Tragedy strikes when Heather turns up dead at a party. When the police, despite their best efforts, hit a wall, who better to crack the case than Miss Marple?Miss Marple s...

Okay, I liked it, even though it started a little slow. But the ending? Loved it! Even though my prime suspect got bumped off way too early (lately, they keep killing off *my* suspects, haha). Here's the lowdown: The usual peace and quiet of St. Mary Mead is shattered by a bit of Hollywood glamour: Marina Gregg and her husband, producer Jason Rude, have bought the Bantry's house. The new owners decide to throw a party for the local hospital, and all the town's movers and shakers attend. During th...

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Genre: Mystery + ClassicsWhen glamorous movie star Marina Gregg moves into town to shoot a movie and settle down, one of her fans drops dead at her party. Initially, everyone thinks it was a heart attack, but the medical report reveals a drug overdose. Suddenly, it's murder, and the body count keeps rising until the clever Miss Marple cracks the case for Inspector Craddock. What a charming story! It's like a breath of fresh air. I know that's an odd thing to say about a murder myster...

I'm re-reading Agatha Christie's Miss Marple series, and it always brings me joy. In The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side, an American actress purchases a charming old estate in or near St. Mary Mead, England... and at her grand opening party, a guest is poisoned. We soon learn the glass was intended for the actress herself... why would someone in another country want her dead? Miss Marple helps the local Scotland Yard investigators figure it out. And as usual, she's one step ahead of everyone e...

The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side is one of the most cleverly written murder mysteries in the Miss Marple series. In fact, it's in the batch I consider to be Agatha Christie's best. The story hooked me from the start, even before the central murder mystery kicked in. The opening chapters about Miss Marple and her attempts to adapt to the changing social landscape were fascinating. I was so drawn in that I almost forgot I was there to read a whodunit! :)The plot is based on a truly intelligent...

February 2024 Lunchtime Listen of the full audiobookA wonderful listen, and considering it was 8 and 1/2 hours, a very quick lunchtime experience, brilliantly read by Emilia Fox, one of the Fox acting dynasty.I think this is considerably better than the dramatization, and so fully deserving of the 5 stars I gave the book back in 2017.Miss Marple is convalescing at her home after an illness, and with no live-in maid anymore, she has a live-in carer called Miss Knight, paid for by her nephew Raymo...

There's nothing quite like staying up late on a summer evening, lost in a good mystery, trying to figure out whodunit. Mysteries have always been one of my favorite genres, and while I enjoy a few contemporary series, no one measures up to the queen of mystery writing, Agatha Christie. I'm generally a fan of her Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, but I've recently discovered her other famous sleuth, Miss Jane Marple. In The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side, Miss Marple is once again front and cen...

This Miss Marple novel, "The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side" by Agatha Christie, is set in St Mary Mead, but it’s a village that's seen changes. Miss Marple’s old friend, Dolly Bantry, has sold Gossington Hall and moved into the East Lodge, while ‘the Development’ – a new housing estate – encroaches on the very outskirts of the village. There's even a supermarket, viewed with suspicion by elderly ladies who enjoy shopping as a form of social interaction and aren't necessarily in a rush to hurl...

A really good Christie mystery for Marple fans. The victim, Heather Babcock, is one of those idiots who gets on everyone's nerves. You know, a pushy do-gooder who forces their help on everyone? It's not sad when she bites it.Some of the plot threads are pretty far-fetched, and the coincidences are over the top at times. But! Still a really good read, in my opinion.Publisher: HarperAudioEdition: UnabridgedJoan Hickson - Narrator Looking for classic whodunit mysteries? Then Agatha Christie's *The M...
