John A. Heldt, author of the 'Northwest Passage Series' and 'American Journey Series,' delivers a unique sci-fi romance novel in 'The Mine: A Northwest Passage Novel.'
Set in Montana and later Seattle, USA, Joel is your average twenty-two-year-old college student, about to graduate with bright prospects. While exploring an abandoned mine on a hiking trip with his buddy Adam, Joel finds himself transported back to the 1940s. Initially, he's anxious to return home, but when he meets twenty-one-ye...

It starts with two teenage boys just looking for some fun. I was enjoying their interactions and where the story seemed to be heading. But then the main character goes back in time, and that's where **The Mine: A Northwest Passage Novel** lost me.
I've always believed that good historical fiction—and the very definition of a book being historical fiction—is that the storyline wouldn't make sense if you dropped it into any other time or place. I don't think this book quite fits that bill (though...

3.25 StarsI enjoyed this time travel romance. I have high expectations for time travel books because they can so often be done poorly. But *The Mine: A Northwest Passage Novel* was delightful. Joel is on a road trip with a friend in the year 2000 when he stumbles across an abandoned mine. It just so happens that some strange celestial event is occurring at the same time, and once he enters the mine, he's thrust back in time to 1941. With money he can't use because it hasn't been printed yet, and...

Joel Smith, in the weeks leading up to his college graduation, takes off on a road trip with his friend Adam. While in Minnesota, they stumble upon an abandoned gold mine, which Joel, the cocky geologist that he is, decides to enter. He sees a snake, a glowing chamber… things get murky… he passes out… he wakes up and leaves the mine to discover… it's Memorial Day of 1941.
He finds his way back to his hometown of Seattle, WA, where he is befriended by a guy named Tom. Tom helps him out with his ...

Note: I received a copy of "The Mine: A Northwest Passage Novel" in exchange for an honest review.Positives"The Mine: A Northwest Passage Novel" is the best time-travel book I’ve read in a really, really long time! It’s a brilliantly written book, and the strong and realistic characterization will definitely blow your mind. Joel Smith, the lead, is such a gentleman and is just so adorable that I really can’t praise him enough. You can feel the connection with Joel develop over quite a few pages,...

The Mine: A Northwest Passage Novel by John A. Heldt is a self-published novel released in 2013. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
In the year 2000, Joel and his friends explore an old mine in the Seattle area. While his friends merrily explore, Joel has a slightly different experience. He encounters a snake, then a blue glow, which sends him tumbling back to 1941.
Thinking fast, Joel helps a guy out and ends up living with his family and working ...

Who says men can't write paranormal romantic Chick Lit????? The Mine: A Northwest Passage Novel by John A. Heldt has funny moments, sweet moments, sad moments, inspirational moments, and yes, sigh-worthy moments. I'm not trying to have the author's man card revoked, but, wow...A slightly spoiled and brash, fun-loving college senior enters an abandoned mine shaft at the same time as a rare planetary alignment is taking place, the year is 2000. He exits said mine shaft and things look "different" ...

3.5 starsI've got a serious soft spot for time travel books.I reckon my love affair with time travel kicked off with the Back to the Future movies – I was totally obsessed as a kid. Either way, I'm always drawn to books about zipping through time, and "The Mine: A Northwest Passage Novel" came highly recommended on Goodreads. Maybe it's because I devour so many time travel stories, but this one didn't feel quite as original to me. I enjoyed the plot and was keen to see how it all played out, but...

Originally published at Book Lovers IncThe description doesn't do this book justice. When I finished reading *The Mine: A Northwest Passage Novel* (at 2 in the morning!), I lay there and stared at the ceiling for a long, long time. *The Mine* is one of those stories that will stick with you. It was just about perfect.Time travel stories are supposed to be messy, as a recent column by Charlie Jane Anders in io9 put it, and the messiness of the time-travel is the crux of the dilemma for Joel Stein...
