”Sweat drenched his hair, his hands, his clothes, everything. A fear he had never known filled him to the point of insanity.”Truth be told, I’ve been waiting to read this book for ages! I don’t even know when the first movie came out, but I think it must have been around 2014 or something like that. Anyway, because I didn’t know better back then I just went to the movies and watched the film only to find out that it’s based on a trilogy that was written by James Dashner. Of course I was very int...

Trying to escape in another one of those super average, stereotypical, fanfiction-y, teenage dystopian young adult nightmare battle royale *Hunger Games* clones. Ugh. Seriously average writing. I read tons of children's books and YA, especially stuff with fresh, funny, and unconventional writing, but I just don't get the hype around *The Maze Runner* by James Dashner. It's got nothing going on – no complex plots, no interesting characters, nothing. It's always a bad sign when I start losing foc...

To Summarize: Wellllll...that was convenient...Thomas wakes up in the middle of a glade in the center of an enormous maze. He (along with all of the other guys in there) have no memory of life outside of the maze.Absolutely blank slates, the lot of them...wellll....mostly.Their entire lives were conveniently erased just enough so they'd have language, motor skills, and just enough memory to understand irrigation/farming but nothing of their personal lives. Every month, a newcomer arrives to the ...

I've turned the last page, and all I can say is: What in the name of everything holy was that nonsense? ...Aaaaand ..... rant!----- When I'm feeling sick—you know, that snotty, phlegmy, feverish kind of sick—and my brain feels like it's sizzling in a frying pan, I sometimes reach for some easy-reading "fluff" to give my neurons a break. Sometimes, though, that strategy backfires, and the 'fluffy' book tries to break my already suffering brain cells with its sheer stupidity. This isn't even medi...

Okay, so before I start, I want to say something. I personally hesitated to read this book because I heard too many bad reviews and things about it. But let me tell you something. Yeah, it has its problems, like the writing style, but this book has one of the best story plots I have ever read. And believe me, once you get into The Maze Runner, you will not care about the writing or anything else. I am seriously so angry I haven't read this book sooner, and even more for listening to or readin...

Q: If you could edit "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner, what would you take out?A: The words.. . . Have you ever had an eight-year-old kid try to describe winning a level of a video game? Or a middle-aged man try to explain completing the New York Times crossword? Did those experiences involve conversations like this:“What is the maze?”“Stop asking so many questions!”I have to say, "The Maze Runner" was more boring than having someone painstakingly describe winning a video game or finishing a c...

You know that feeling when you're sprinting away from some terrifying monster, and in a moment of sheer panic, you whip around to see how close it is, only to slam face-first into a brick wall? No?Me neither. Never happened to me. But that kind of momentary lapse in focus would probably totally screw you over because a.) you're now unconscious and b.) said monster is about to make you lunch. Way to go.It's a bit like Lot's wife glancing back at Sodom and turning into a pillar of salt. And it's al...

"You are the shuckiest shuck faced shuck in the world!" 2 1/2 stars. It's funny how just a few years can change everything – your reading tastes, your expectations, your standards... because when I read *The Maze Runner* in early 2011, I enjoyed it a lot. It seemed fast-paced, exciting, and a little scary. Plus, I thought the slang was a nice touch. Three years and a million dystopian/sci-fi books later, and everything about me has outgrown this book. It's not *terrible*. I can still ...

I picked up The Maze Runner after it was recommended to me as something Hunger Games fans would enjoy – and that series is one of my all-time faves. So, I dove in, psyched for another awesome dystopian adventure. Sadly, that’s not what I got. The plot itself was pretty cool and kept me turning the pages; honestly, it was probably the *only* thing that kept me reading. Some authors can weave together great characters and writing with a plot that just flies; James Dashner isn't one of them. The pa...

This book, *The Maze Runner* by James Dashner, would have been great IF:1) the characters had some personality2) the main character - Thomas - weren't such a Gary Stu and showed some character development and growth instead of conveniently "remembering" important information to advance the plot3) the book weren't filled with atrocious made-up slang - "shuck-face," really, is this supposed to be cool?4) the villains - Grievers - were actually scary or dangerous5) the maze had some kind of mystery...
