I got this book back in 2005 when I used to somewhat enjoy reading chick-lit. It’s nineteen years later, so it’s time to dust it off the physical TBR shelf and finally get into *The Guy Next Door* by Meg Cabot.
………. I kind of wish I just donated it with the other ones, but unfortunately I liked the cover so I wanted to keep it and was deceived by the reviews. This book is 379 pages long and I DNF when I had 80 pages left. Let me tell you why I stopped reading this book:
This Meg Cabot novel is...

The Guy Next Door by Meg Cabot was such a fun read! I mean, I totally saw the ending coming from a mile away, and it was mega cheesy, but honestly, still SO FUN. I can't believe I waited so long to dive into this fantastic romantic comedy. Meg Cabot is my queen!

Reread 2020: Such an improvement over the last Meg Cabot book I read that I'm bumping *The Guy Next Door* up from a four to a five-star review, though it's probably really a 4.5-star book.
This *romantic comedy book* is really tropey, and Meg Cabot certainly has her signature tropes, but I genuinely enjoyed it. It’s a comfort read through and through. In a lot of ways, *The Guy Next Door* sort of reminds me of a modern remake of one of those old Doris Day and Rock Hudson movies my mom used to m...

When asked about my favorite book, The Guy Next Door by Meg Cabot always springs to mind because I was just so entertained. I honestly don't know how Meg Cabot managed to write an entire book in an all-email format and make it such an amazing, truly engaging read. She is definitely a talented author!

What I particularly enjoyed about The Guy Next Door is its original writing style. Meg Cabot's novel is presented in a modern epistolary fashion, unfolding entirely through the emails exchanged by its various characters. The story is witty, features a delightful little mystery to solve (which I always appreciate), and this romantic comedy overall feels light and refreshing.

So, this was my first experience with Meg Cabot. Maybe not the best place to start, considering there are more popular books of hers I could have chosen, but I guess it wasn't a bad introduction to her work. The Guy Next Door started out pretty awesome; there was hilarity left and right, and I just loved it. After I was halfway through, though, the book began to drag quite a bit, and I was annoyed with most of the characters. The magic of the cute romance faded for me as well, because even if it ...

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to finish The Guy Next Door because, while there were some things I genuinely liked about the email format in which it was written, the format overall left me wanting. The story picked up, however, and I found myself not minding the email format so much. After a little while, I found myself engrossed, wanting desperately to find out who attacked the neighbor and whether or not Mel and John would get together (OK, so admittedly I knew this was an inevitability...

This book has earned its place as my new most embarrassing book to read in public to date. I made a special point to fold the pages of this book over, hiding the cheesy cover which seemed to scream the announcement, “Yes, I read mindless, fluffy chick lit!” I guess I wouldn’t have been so embarrassed to be reading this book if it hadn't been for the general low quality of the entire concept. The Guy Next Door is a romantic story about Mel, a young gossip columnist for a New York newspaper, who e...

Okay – just to warn you – this entire book is in email format. Yup. 379 pages of emails. Truth be told – I really liked it!
So we have Mel Fuller, who writes the page 10 celebrity gossip column for the NY Journal. She’s late for work (for about the 50th time) because she found her neighbor lady lying face down with her dog barking like crazy. She really likes her neighbor Mrs. Friedlander and feels bad for her two cats and dog (a Great Dane named Paco – who on earth has a Great Dane in NYC?!?!)...

Well, it's almost 1 o'clock and I just finished The Guy Next Door. I couldn't put it down! It was just a really fun, easy read, which I am all about. It's different from other books I've read by Meg Cabot because it's written entirely in e-mails. You might think that wouldn't carry the story very well, but it absolutely did. I kept thinking, 'Okay, just one more e-mail and then I'm going to bed!'
The only thing that irritated me a little is that the main character (Mel) calls her mom and dad 'm...
