That was excruciating. After about page 120, I started skimming. The further in, the more lightly I skimmed, and yet it still felt interminable. Morris is a competent writer. I've read books by people with less skill at stringing words together. But the content...the content. I was reminded of John Norman's Gor books, and not just because this book also concerned itself with women being bound and humiliated. Like Norman, Morris has over-stuffed **The Golden Sword of Silistra** with world-buildin...

Her heritage outweighs her love. In this enthralling second volume, Silistra delves deeper into her powers and her ancient origins. The captivating courtesan, capable of wielding the very power of the gods, confronts agonizing dilemmas and profound questions in her demanding and challenging existence. The action is relentless, never faltering, leaving us readers as breathless and yearning as the characters themselves, completely hooked on every unfolding event. If you're looking for fantasy book...

Call it what you like: science fiction, space opera, sword and planet, or erotic fantasy... *The Golden Sword of Silistra* is all these things, and so much more. This is a highly intelligent and sensual novel brimming with ideas and revelations; a gripping story that fearlessly explores human sexuality and its pivotal role in politics. While the unforgettable characters are bisexual, cast aside any preconceived notions. You'll find a humanity, a strength of will and unwavering determination, and...

THE GOLDEN SWORD OF SILISTRA is the second book in the Silistra Quartet. After reading the first book, THE HIGH COUCH OF SILISTRA, I was thrilled to reconnect with the heroine, Estri, and have her adventurous, fun character revealed to me all over again. In telling her story, she has a unique way of forging her vulnerability and misfortune into strength. "I had found myself, naked but for cloak and chald, upon my back in the Parset desert, looking up at the constellations of the night sky of Sil...

The Golden Sword of Silistra continues Janet E. Morris's exploration of complex moral dilemmas, set in a world populated by people whose philosophies and beliefs are radically different from our own. This society's primary focus? The restoration of their race's genetic vitality and exuberance. We rejoin Estri, the High Couch of Silistra. Having completed the "chaledra of the mother" – a profound journey to find her godlike father – Estri returns to Silistra in circumstances drastically changed ...

I'm seriously tempted to just write: five stars! And be done with this review. Tempted, yes, but I won't. Not yet. Let me ask you a couple of questions, dear reader(s):1. If you've already decided to buy **The Golden Sword of Silistra** by Janet E. Morris, is there anything I could say in this review to change your mind?2. Conversely, if you've already decided *not* to buy it, could I possibly persuade you otherwise? My recommendation is to purchase **The Golden Sword of Silistra** based on its l...

The Golden Sword of Silistra. Let me start by saying this is the SECOND book in the Silistra Quartet – and it helps to have read the earlier book, although I think you could get by without it. The action starts immediately, and thus some prior knowledge of the world and the main character is useful. That said the world building, like Janet Morris’s other books is superb and there is a helpful glossary at the back for the unfamiliar alien terms. When Morris creates a world she doesn’t hold back a...

The second book in the series about the future courtesan. Not really my cup of tea, although I thought the first one in the series was okay. I didn't read any further in this series after "The Golden Sword of Silistra," but I've greatly enjoyed a lot of Janet E. Morris's other work. If you're looking for science fiction and fantasy book reviews, this one might not be enthusiastic enough for you, but I wanted to give my honest opinion.
