It's an honest effort, but the pacing of "The Forty-Minute War" is just too much. It often feels like you're jumping into the middle of a series, with no introduction to the setting or the characters whatsoever. The writing style is ridiculously bland and crammed with superlatives – everything is just *so* extreme! You can see the plot twists coming from a mile away. I definitely wouldn't recommend "The Forty-Minute War" by Janet E. Morris. For more fast-paced and engaging fantasy book reviews, ...

What an absolute thrill ride this novel, The Forty-Minute War by Janet E. Morris, turned out to be! I've always been a bit hesitant about techno-thrillers, but I picked this one up anyway, drawn in by the cover and the intriguing story description. I'm happy to say my worries were completely unfounded. The plot was so wonderfully fast-paced and vibrant, and the characters felt so real and alive, that I had no trouble at all navigating the technical details. They were presented in such a reader-f...

I received "The Forty-Minute War" as an ARC in exchange for an honest review, and I absolutely loved it! The fact that Janet E. Morris originally wrote it back in '84 just adds to the thrill ride. It was re-released in 2015, and it's an intriguing political spy-versus-spy plot that really delivers with its disturbing and compelling scenes. I'm not one for spoilers, so I'll just say it earns a solid 5 out of 5 stars from me for author Janet E. Morris. If you're looking for exciting political thri...

***** Bravo! What would happen if the United States literally fell apart for forty minutes? Read this fascinating book, *The Forty-Minute War* by the well-versed author, Janet E. Morris, to find out. Blasting right out of the starting gate, the reader is slammed headfirst into a terrifying act. An act accomplished by an American-educated, Western-garbed jihadist, hell-bent on killing the American president along with the very seat of the U.S. government.Extremely well-written, I found myself fasc...

A neat, compact little thriller with a twist that veers a bit off the beaten path at the end. I likely picked up this book from a used bookstore, judging by the price sticker, and it's been kicking around for a while, considering the fragile binding.
It does telegraph its ending somewhat, though. If you're looking for quick thrillers, Janet E. Morris's *The Forty-Minute War* is a decent read.

Janet E. Morris's *The Forty-Minute War* is a genre-bending novel, seamlessly blending speculative fiction, spy thriller, black ops intrigue, romance, and science fiction. This updated edition feels incredibly relevant, as the story of jihadists detonating a nuclear bomb resonates just as powerfully today as it did when originally published in 1984. The narrative feels timeless, perfectly suited for our current times, perhaps even more so than before.
The reader is immersed in the lives of Marc...

Honestly, the best part of Janet E. Morris's *The Forty-Minute War* is the opening. Islamic jihadists crash a jumbo jet into the US capital and detonate a nuclear bomb. Doesn't seem so far-fetched here in post-9/11 America, but this was published way back in 1984. Talk about a chillingly prescient thriller! The rest of *The Forty-Minute War* is a fairly standard spy thriller. I did appreciate that the protagonist made mistakes – really big ones, at that. Then there's the obligatory sex scene. I'm...

Picture this...A group of Arab terrorists hijack an airliner and fly it toward the U.S. capital, where they detonate an atomic bomb directly above the White House.Been there, done that? Not at all, especially when you consider that Janet E. Morris' novel, *The Forty-Minute War*, was originally published in 1984—nearly twenty years before the fateful and tragic events of 9/11.Morris writes with skill and realistic clarity, depicting what could happen if such a devastating event were to occur. The...

Though initially penned in the mid-1980s and unfolding during the Cold War's peak, The Forty-Minute War feels relevant from the dawn of the atomic age to today. The adversaries may evolve, but warfare and its devastating fallout remain constant. From the outset, the action grips you – intense, captivating, yet simultaneously heartbreaking. This is a narrative of human error, human obstinacy, and human desperation, but also of human bravery. Prepare for a significant death toll, tears, disbelief,...
