As a young boy I watched Neil Armstrong take that 'one small step', and I began devouring science fiction, from Asimov's Foundation, Clarke's Rama and Herbert's Dune, to today's Adrian Tchaikovsky and others. The Eden Paradox grew from a short story to a four-book series, followed by my take on alien AI in the Children...

Set fifty years in the future, *The Eden Paradox* is a sci-fi thriller based around a dystopian world. Barry Kirwan follows multiple characters through their journey of interplanetary travel and the ensuing consequences. Kirwan treats the reader to a vivid and rich description of the settings for the story, making us feel like we can truly see these alien landscapes. The story is told from the perspective of several main characters, which helps us get a fully rounded view while maintaining an ev...

Barry Kirwan tackles a complex culture and a sprawling sci-fi world head-on, throwing us right into the thick of it. He nails the feeling that many extraterrestrial sci-fi fans already understand: Earth just isn't the answer anymore. "The Eden Paradox" is a multi-layered story, juggling different viewpoints, factions, and areas of political tension. The way Kirwan manages to keep all those balls in the air while still driving the story forward is seriously impressive. There are moments when the...

An excellent book with great characters. *The Eden Paradox* by Barry Kirwan tells the story of a human race that has nearly exhausted Earth's natural resources and must search the universe for a habitable planet to colonize. Their search leads them to Eden, a planet seemingly mirroring Earth. Reconnaissance rockets are dispatched, and the third one successfully lands after the first two are sabotaged. The humans are pawns in a larger game, manipulated by an alien race that feeds on planets and ...

Barry Kirwan's *The Eden Paradox* delivers a gripping narrative set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, fractured between two warring factions. The citizens of the West live under the oppressive thumb of a ruthless police state, adding a chilling layer of fear to an already desperate situation. With a mere decade left before the planet becomes uninhabitable, the West races against time, desperately exploring the potential of an alternate world, utilizing a groundbreaking faster-than-light spacecraft. T...

I generally struggle to find what I'd call good old-fashioned sci-fi, but this free download from BookBub really hit the spot with "The Eden Paradox" by Barry Kirwan. Up-to-date storyline, nasty aliens, and heroic earthlings – great stuff! With a bit of judicious editing to eliminate typos and repetitiveness, "The Eden Paradox" could be a serious contender alongside Heinlein or Frank Herbert's *Dune* for excellent sci-fi. Definitely a recommended read for fans of classic space opera and thrillin...

Okay, so *The Eden Paradox* by Barry Kirwan throws you headfirst into a distant future, bouncing between planets, which honestly took me a bit to wrap my head around. With a ton of characters and each chapter told from a different perspective, it was tough to really connect with them at first or feel invested in their struggles. But stick with it, because once it clicks, the story's genuinely a blast. Think about it: a dying Earth, a new planet that seems livable, good aliens, evil aliens pulli...

Clever

A clever storyline, though it can be a bit of a slog at times. Barry Kirwan is a talented writer and weaves a compelling narrative in *The Eden Paradox*, but I suspect many readers will find themselves setting the book aside, struggling to wade through the complexities. If you're after an easy, breezy read, this might not be it. But if you enjoy a challenging and thought-provoking sci-fi thriller, *The Eden Paradox* is worth the effort. Just be prepared to concentrate!

When I had the chance to be part of The Eden Paradox blog tour, I jumped at it. I already knew I loved Barry Kirwan’s writing and was excited to see how he handled science fiction. I guess, theoretically, that could mean I got my hopes up too high. Thankfully, however, The Eden Paradox was just as good as I hoped. It had everything: dying planets, new planets as potential salvation, good aliens, bad aliens, aliens secretly controlling sect groups, humans nuking said aliens after being lured to ...

It's like Aliens meets Battlestar Galactica in a blender. "The Eden Paradox" by Barry Kirwan throws a ton of characters and storylines at you, switching perspectives constantly to keep the plot barreling forward. I did start to find the cliffhanger thing a bit predictable towards the end – you know, leaving one character hanging before jumping to another. And a couple of character changes felt a little rushed in the final act. Similar to A.G. Riddle's Atlantis trilogy, I thought the heroes were ...

Barry Kirwan's *The Eden Paradox* is an enjoyable read that science fiction fans will relish. Fifty years into the future, Earth has been ravaged by war and is on the brink of collapse from heat exhaustion. Scientists have already discovered the vaccine for AIDS, and robot soldiers have quelled rebel invasions. The three-year-long World War between the United Secular Nations and the 'Big Five' Religious Front countries has left half a billion dead and a shortage of food (beef has hit $300 a kilo...
