A powerful reminder of war’s horrors, it’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. In 1942, as Nazis occupied Holland, thirteen-year-old Anne Frank and her family fled to a secret an...

"Riches, prestige, everything can be lost. But the happiness in your own heart can only be dimmed; it will always be there, as long as you live, to make you happy again."
I'm not sure if I can review this book properly. I started a few times before, but it's just too difficult... I really wish I had skipped the Afterward section and read it sometime after. I don't recall being this sad after reading a book...

A heartbreaking, essential read"The Diary of a Young Girl" functions as both a sociological and psychological study. The way Anne Frank depicts the world outside and the complex relationships within her confined circle is truly remarkable and a cornerstone of the book. Equally important are the:Thoughts and feelings of a teenagerIn a world that had completely abandoned reason and humanity. While the book is most famous for its descriptions of the Holocaust, it’s also a compelling coming-of-age s...

If only Anne Frank's *The Diary of a Young Girl* was just a story someone made up. Imagine if this bright, smart, and expressive girl hadn't died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp with so many others, if the Holocaust had never happened. That would be incredible, but it *did* happen, which makes reading this diary all the more heartbreaking.
For a 13-year-old, Anne was incredibly articulate. The way she puts her thoughts and feelings about herself and others into words is amazing. She cou...

Honestly, what can I say that hasn't already been said a million times? "The Diary of a Young Girl" is a five-star read because it's vital, because it's authentic, and because the Holocaust is a tragedy we must never, ever forget. If you're looking for powerful Holocaust book reviews, start here.

Possibly the best personal diary ever. Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, 1942. Hidden in the secret upper annex of an office building with several other Jewish people, Annelies Marie Frank was thirteen years old when she started writing Kitty, her personal diary. In it, she poured all her thoughts about life, love, and daily life with her family and other refugees. The diary came abruptly to an end in 1944, when everyone was discovered and sent to concentration camps, where she died of typhoid...

Okay, so maybe the first thing that jumps out is that I'm only giving **The Diary of a Young Girl** 3 stars. I know, it's one of the best-selling books of the 20th (and now 21st) century, and it's about the Holocaust. Trust me, I get it.
**The first thing this book taught me was honesty.**
Anne Frank teaches us all about honesty, about saying what you really think, and so that's what I'm doing.
To start, I wonder how many people *really* read this book. I mean, *really* read it. Is everyone g...

Why do we write reviews?I guess people have a lot of reasons. But for this review, there's only one. I'm writing this for my conscience. Ever since I rated The Diary of a Young Girl, I've always asked myself if I rated it fairly, or just out of sympathy (some call it a pity vote)?Reading other reviews (though most people just rate it and move on) raised more questions and gave me an idea of what people generally think about Anne Frank and her diary. So, I'm going to start with this:DO WE DESERVE t...

My intention in writing this review for The Diary of a Young Girl is to tell all the negative reviewers to SHUT UP! I'm all for everyone's right to express their opinion, but I read a few of the '1 star' reviews and I was shocked by what some people had to say about this book by Anne Frank. Before forming an opinion, I suggest people keep a few things in mind:1. This is someone's DIARY, not a book meant to entertain people. If you think it was boring, then tell me, how many interesting things ca...

Honestly, I just can't. I can't bring myself to finish "The Diary of a Young Girl". I've tried three times already, and each time I've been forced to put it aside. Books and films about the Holocaust are fascinating, but this one just didn't grab me. Unfortunately, I wasn't engaged and found I couldn't care less.
I'll have to try it again in a few years.
On the upside, I firmly believe that Anne Frank, had she survived the war, would have grown up to be a marvelous, best-selling writer. At the...

I confess I felt a bit like a voyeur while reading this. The thought kept nagging at me that this wasn't just a regular novel, or even a straightforward true story. This was someone’s diary. Every page was written in confidence, each word revealing the innermost thoughts of this young girl. As someone who keeps a journal myself, I sometimes wonder, "What if someone were to read this?" which makes me think about how much I should filter my words. But isn't the whole point of a diary or journal th...
