Alex is the son of supervillains who've gone underground, prepping for the comeback of their supervillain organization, The Cloak Society by Jeramey Kraatz. The supervillains' kids are trained together, known as the Beta team. Alex faces rivalries and friendships with his fellow Betas, plus pressure from his megalomaniac mother to boost his power and become someone she's proud of. During a mission, he spots a Junior Justice Ranger about to be offed by one of his teammates and rescues her, leadin...

Plot/Execution/Characters: The premise isn't groundbreaking, but "The Cloak Society" by Jeramey Kraatz is still an engaging read. You've got your classic superhero versus villain dynamic, but with a cool twist: The Gloom. This mysterious place is where those who aren't marked can't return from on their own, and risk being banished forever. It adds a real sense of danger. The story is concise and moves quickly, without getting bogged down in unnecessary details. It's also straightforward and easy ...

==================================Update as of Saturday, January 27th, 2018, regarding my reading of The Cloak Society on the previous day and continuing into today.==================================Now I remember the somewhat hazy reasoning I used to decide I enjoyed The Cloak Society. I don't know exactly what it was, just like I don't know exactly what prune jelly would taste like. Really, it's a brilliant book. For a little while (a very short time, really), the language seemed a bit simple,...

For his twelfth birthday, Alex gets to go on a bank robbery.Raised from birth in The Cloak Society – now in its fourth generation since the first scientists gained power, bent on world-domination to "right a world that's wrong" – this is his first chance to prove his skills. He fails to get them into the vault with his telekinetic powers; two other young teammates (the Beta Team) succeed. And worse, in the ensuing fight, he reflexively saves the life of one of the superheroes. His mother does no...

I really enjoyed "The Cloak Society" by Jeramey Kraatz, but there were a couple of things that held it back from being a truly great read for me. These issues make it difficult to give this otherwise cute book a higher rating. If you're looking for a fun middle grade book review, keep reading!

I went into this one with pretty low expectations, but honestly, I was hooked! The characters in *The Cloak Society* are totally believable and well-developed – you actually care about what happens to them. The plot moves at a great pace, never a dull moment, and it completely held my attention from beginning to end. It's a fantastic YA read, and Jeramey Kraatz has created a world I'm definitely eager to dive back into. Seriously looking forward to the rest of *The Cloak Society* series! If you'...

Thoughts on the Overall Book: I'm not the biggest fan of superhero stories, but when it comes to the villains, everyone loves a good one. I really liked the premise of *The Cloak Society* by Jeramey Kraatz, featuring a young supervillain in training who has some moral issues with the people he's siding with. It's a fun twist on the genre, perfect for a quick read!Cover--Yea or Nay: The cover is cool-looking and will likely catch kids' attention, especially young boys (it caught my younger brothe...

Jeramey Kraatz’s "The Cloak Society" offers a fascinating perspective by looking at the world through the eyes of a villain. Twelve-year-old Alex Knight, a member of the villainous Cloak Society, also happens to possess superpowers. He's spent his entire life training to follow in his parents' footsteps and become one of the world's greatest villains. But on his first real mission, instead of following orders, he saves a girl named Kirbie, who just happens to be a Ranger. The Rangers of Justice ...

I was genuinely surprised when I started noticing themes of brainwashing, manipulation, and the morality of killing your opponent in a middle-grade superhero novel. The adults in Jeramey Kraatz's *The Cloak Society* are driven by revenge and domination, turning their own children into weapons and sacrificial lambs. The children are effectively brainwashed into blindly following the Cloak’s agenda. Those without powers are treated like second-class citizens, basically slaves. The prejudice and el...
