Time travel to Ireland, circa 950 AD. I really struggled with "The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance". I just didn't find either the characters or the plot particularly engaging. If you're looking for a good time travel romance or a captivating historical fiction read, R.A. MacAvoy's "The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance" might not be it.

I really wanted to love "The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance." I'm a sucker for historical fiction, and I'm obsessed with all things Celtic. R.A. MacAvoy clearly knows her Celtic history, and the time travel element added a fun twist. While the first few chapters definitely grabbed my attention, I eventually got bored. The story just seemed to drag on and go nowhere. I can't really put my finger on why, but it just lost its appeal for me. I also really disliked John's character. You don't ...

Weak. Flat characters, confused storyline… Just didn't click for me. I'm giving it 2 stars (and not just one) solely because I'm a sucker for Gaelic culture and folklore. Honestly, The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance by R.A. MacAvoy left me wanting more, and not in a good way. If you're looking for a good book review, this isn't it.

This has to be one of the absolute worst books I've ever tried to read. The writing is just bad. The point of view and the narrative voice jump around so much that you completely lose track of whose head you're even supposed to be in. The characters are underdeveloped and, frankly, totally unlikable. And the story itself? Poorly told. I was hoping for a nice distraction while waiting for the next Outlander book, but instead, I got a chore, a disappointment, and only the third book in the last fo...

A captivating story with a truly original spin. Some might categorize it as fantasy, while others might label it as science fiction, but it skillfully blends elements of both without fully committing to either. Deliberate, almost predictable time travel plays a significant role in driving the plot of *The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance* forward, yet it's initiated by neither scientific principles nor magical forces. The method behind the time jumps (and the recurring detail that each jump...

It's like "Timeline" meets Epic Rap Battles of History, but with a horny, spineless idiot who winds up with a minor. Still, not half bad since I actually read R.A. MacAvoy's *The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance* in one sitting. If you're looking for unique historical romance book reviews, this one's definitely... something.

People adore "The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance." I'm not one of them. Why? Well:The main characters are dull and never seem genuinely amazed by their time travel situation. The editing is sloppy.Perhaps because I just finished the incredibly detailed "Hild," but R.A. MacAvoy's ancient Ireland just didn't resonate with me.Even the time travel aspect felt lazy and amateurishly executed.I didn't care what happened to anyone in "The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance." Not even a little b...

This is seriously one of my all-time favorite books. While "The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance" is definitely a fantasy novel, R.A. MacAvoy's portrayal of life in Viking Dublin is both captivating and clearly based on solid research. It's one of the rare novels I've read (along with King Hereafter) that actually does a convincing job of depicting everyday Viking life. If you're looking for historically accurate and engaging Viking fiction, look no further. Beyond the historical details, t...

I first read *The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance* when I was in high school and have re-read it countless times since. It's a proper page-turner! The story kicks off with an absent-minded artist and his ambitious girlfriend who find themselves hurled back to medieval Ireland. How? Well, a naked, wounded Irishwoman from the medieval era just pops into his house out of nowhere! Once they're back in time, they head to the King in Dublin seeking help against invading Vikings, and that's where...

Found it, along with some others I’d completely forgotten about, lurking on one of the shelves in the bedroom.
You have to take it as read that some 'shelves' are actually floor spaces, lol.
Hah! As it turns out I *have* read this, and I can remember exactly where I read it, which was by a pool in Porec (pronounced porridge), Istria.
Disregarding the way my tastes have changed, this rating reflects how much I loved "The Book of Kells: A Time-Crossed Romance" by R.A. MacAvoy twenty-odd years a...
