Back in 2007, I stumbled upon the *Alex Rider* series by listening to the audiobook of the first book, *Stormbreaker*. I'd seen the movie advertised, but it bombed, and rightly so after watching it. Facebook wasn't the app-filled beast it is now, so I posted my review on the only place I knew: Amazon. Soon after, that giant shopping site recommended the *Maximum Ride* series to me because of my *Stormbreaker* review. So, I found *The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1)* at my local library....

1.5 starsI'm sorry, but this was just awful. I listened to the audiobook of *The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1)*, and the narrator, Evan Rachel Wood, is pretty excellent, so if you're going to listen to this book, I definitely recommend that format. That being said, this story was all over the place. It wasn't just convoluted; it felt like giant chunks of backstory were missing. All the teens did was fly around and constantly get attacked. Then, something happened at the end that made m...

Well, that wasn't half bad! So, you've got six kids who are human, but also part bird. Huh, and all this time I thought they were angels 😄 Just goes to show you have to read the book, The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1) by James Patterson, to know the real story.I'm really glad The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1) was on one of my reading challenge lists because I've been wanting to dive into this series. I think I'll keep borrowing them on Overdrive to see what happens next. I m...

Hear me when I say this: nothing, ever, in my entire life, will hit me like *The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1)* about orphan kids with wings living together in a weird boxcar-children scenario after being experimented on, who are then kidnapped for *more* experimenting on, hit me in the fifth grade. Hard.I mean, my friends and I started a spontaneous book club. At the age of ten. Just to process how intensely we felt about this book by James Patterson. That's a once-in-a-lifetime experi...

Don't Stop at Page 145!I *want* to finish this book, but then I remember life's too short to waste on one terrible book after another. If I'd read *The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1)* when I was twelve, I probably would have been super impressed. But any reader with the mental capacity of a thirteen-year-old or older can definitely skip this one.And James Patterson, you're on my blacklist. I won't be reading any more of your books. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I...

There's nothing terribly *wrong* with it, but the writing style felt way too juvenile for me. I think The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1) by James Patterson is geared towards a younger audience than I expected. Not exactly the kind of book review I was hoping to write, as I was looking for something a bit more sophisticated!

This book, The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1) by James Patterson, was just okay. I didn't feel like it had much substance. I didn't really take anything away from it; it felt like it lacked any real deep meaning. And it wasn't terribly entertaining, either. I just wish the characters had been a little more developed, I guess. I doubt I'll be reading the rest of the Maximum Ride series. If you're looking for thrilling young adult books, this might not be it.Reviewed for: http://inthehamm...

Now *this* is a terrible book. Written with all the wit and grace of a one-legged puppy, *The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1)* reveals its intentions within the first chapter alone. This is not a book of striking prose or even serviceable but entertaining YA lit. It is merely a cash cow, another mindless series designed to appeal to reluctant readers. It is, in a word, soulless. *Maximum Ride* follows the adventures of six children, each of whom is the product of a genetic experiment: ...

Imagine a dash of *Harry Potter's* childlike innocence battling evil, a sprinkle of *Ender's Game's* manufactured destiny, a soaring pinch of *Eragon's* flying dreams, all blended with James Patterson's signature snappy characters, and you've got *The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1)*. This is the book I'm going to be pushing when everyone's going through *Harry Potter* withdrawal. Seriously. It's that good. And the absolute best thing? There are two more books waiting after this one. I a...

“The funny thing about facing imminent death is that it really snaps everything else into perspective.”

Well, that was fun! I LOVED Max; she was great, annoying at times, but funny and a loving big sister. The writing was okay. The story had potential but was poorly executed. I was hoping for a better young adult book review, but this one fell short.
