In December 1975, the Lutz family thought they'd found their dream home. Little did they know, it was the site of a horrific family massacre just a year prior. What followed were 28 days of unimaginable terror, as a wave of psychic phenomena gripped the house, convincing them it was possessed by mal...

This is the first time I’ve picked up a book specifically for Halloween. I was already familiar with the story, having seen the movies, but I'd never actually read *The Amityville Horror* by Jay Anson until now! It was way scarier than the films and reads like a total page-turner. There's been so much debate about whether the events were a hoax, but honestly, I don’t really care. *The Amityville Horror* delivers exactly what it promises: the scares. I definitely got goosebumps. And I wasn't thr...

Trick or Treat – but not the kind you expect for spooky season!!!The supposedly true story of the haunting and supernatural occurrences at the Amityville house inspired Jay Anson's book, and the book then inspired a film. The events in Long Island captivated the nation. However, the original book boasted, “A fascinating and frightening book” (Los Angeles Times)—the bestselling true story about a house possessed by evil spirits…”, but it turns out it was nothing more than a horror story dreamed up...

112 Ocean Ave, Amityville, Long Island, New York. Spooky!!Flies, slime, black water, a foul, rotten smell, static when you call a priest, waking up at 3:15 AM every damn day... 😬 Why would you stay? 28 days is way too long!I ended up reading articles online and watching YouTube videos because of the whole controversy about whether *The Amityville Horror* is a hoax. The funny thing is, I didn't even know it was supposed to be "real" and just thought Jay Anson had a unique way of telling the stor...

I mean, it just wasn’t that good, or maybe it was just my mood! I enjoyed the movie when I was a kid. I don’t know! Sigh…

I confess, I am SO glad to be finished with this book. I could only manage a couple of chapters at a time; it just felt overwhelmingly dark. The fact that the demons (whatever they were) didn't just throw things around the house to creep the family out, but actually affected the family members' individual personalities and seemed to truly bring out the worst in their humanity… This aspect, to me, was the most disturbing. Though I never plan to read *The Amityville Horror* by Jay Anson again and...

I'll start this review at the end... or, what I did after finishing the book. I knew a bit about *The Amityville Horror* from pop culture. I don’t think I've ever watched the entire movie, but I've seen parts. I'm familiar with the house with windows like Jack O'Lantern eyes. I knew it was a tale of possession and haunting. A story of terrors beyond imagination – terrors that usually only exist in the minds of horror writers and filmmakers. But this supposedly really happened!Or... did it?When I...

Absolutely loved it. Probably more than I should have. It's a brilliant way to write a novel – let's be honest with ourselves and just admit that The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson *is* a novel. The matter-of-fact, almost journalistic tone used to describe such horrific events expertly reinforces the 'realism' façade, and it just makes for fantastic storytelling. Towards the end, the pacing falters a bit and descends into kitchen sink horror (just throw *everything* at the wall!), but even that ...

Let's just pause for a second and have a good laugh at the fact that this idiotic book was sitting in the nonfiction section of my library. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA HAHAHA HA. HA. HAAAAAAOkay, I think I'm good. Wait....HAHAHAHAHAAAAAA OH MAN! HAHA'Okay...That's not even why it's getting one measly star. It gets one star because I seriously think it was written by a twelve-year-old. The writing was so awful it actually pulled me away from the completely ridiculous story. There was just no li...

This "true" story is about as scary as a Ke$ha/Charlie Sheen lovechild. It's terrifying... but it's not the baby's fault. It was created out of a union of glitter-vomit and Tiger Blood. Mama Lutz is an attention whore just in it for the money and notoriety, and Daddy is a talentless hack who just spouts random words emphatically and claims they make sense. It's like it was written by a 12 year old with ADD and then edited by someone who speaks English as a 2nd language... and started taking the ...

Okay, people, let's set the record straight one last time. Here's the real deal about *The Amityville Horror* by Jay Anson.1. On November 13, 1974, a horrific murder took place at the house then known as \"High Hopes,\" located at 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, New York. The victims were the DeFeo family: Ronald Sr., Louise, and four of their five children – Dawn, Allison, Mark, and John.2. Ronald \"Butch\" DeFeo, Jr., the eldest son, ran into a local bar around 6:30 PM that night, begging for he...
