Originally, Richard Matheson titled this book "Bid Time Return." Five years later, the movie adaptation came out with the title we know now: Somewhere in Time. I've always meant to track down a copy with the original title, though it's much easier to find Matheson's more popular works (like I Am Legend or Hell House). I know I've seen at least part of the movie – definitely the ending. That final scene wasn't changed, and for good reason. It's too powerful to mess with, even if much of the rest ...

3 stars for *Somewhere in Time* (audiobook) by Richard Matheson, read by Scott Brick.

I've been on a bit of a time travel kick lately, so my wife suggested this one. Honestly? It's my least favorite so far. The main character comes across as a total stalker at the beginning, and the ending just didn't deliver. If you're looking for great audiobook reviews, this one's a mixed bag.

Q: What you believe becomes your world. (c) Q: I will try to be consistent, no longer oscillating like some planet that has lost its way. For, at long last, I have found my sun. (c) OMG. I can't believe that I somehow missed reading this one before! She was waiting for him. He was looking for her. So, he transcended time (if not space) and they met. For the 2nd time. The time has limited offers only. An incredibly romantic time travel story with, admittedly, dubious mechanics of the said time...

The book has a bit of a bumpy start, and the time-travel element is almost comical while also being completely essential to the novel's inherent ambiguity, but DAMN...THIS IS ONE HELL OF A ROMANCE.Love at first sight, struggling against societal norms, heaving bosoms, broken hearts....Sigh.I'll admit, I kind of fell for this one. I'm not a huge romance reader, but Somewhere in Time by Richard Matheson was just so damn sweet and predictable and utterly satisfying. But I also really appreciated the...

A screenwriter with an inoperable brain tumor becomes obsessed with an actress from the turn of the century and uses hypnosis to travel back in time to meet her. I've been reading a good amount of Richard Matheson lately and found "Somewhere in Time" at a used bookstore. After leaving my Kindle at work over a long weekend, I decided to give it a shot.Honestly, the first third of "Somewhere in Time" felt like a real slog. Imagine trudging uphill in snowshoes with a safe strapped to your back. Ric...

Want to make a whole bunch of strangers hate you? Curse your name? Call you a soulless husk who's never known romance? I can help with that. All you have to do is say something bad about *Somewhere in Time* – either the Richard Matheson novel from 1975, or the 1980 movie with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Go on. Say something bad about *Somewhere in Time*. I dare you. I double-dare you. I *triple-dog-dare* you!Not taking the bait? Smart move. *Somewhere in Time* is one of those stories tha...

What in the world did I just read, and why did I subject myself to it?!This is hands down one of the cheesiest, most sickeningly sweet, chauvinistic, and sloppily sentimental books I've had the misfortune of reading this year. Considering the amount of actual 19th-century literature I've tackled, that's a pretty damning statement. The first third of Richard Matheson's *Somewhere in Time* is dedicated to the main character, Richard Collier (and doesn't it always raise an eyebrow when the character...

A beautiful romance from the pen of a writer more famous for his horror thrillers. How far are you willing to go for the woman you love? Richard Collier has never met the woman of his dreams. And now, at thirty-six, it might be too late, as he is diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. As a screenwriter, he should know better than most how dreams are created out of thin air, yet in his vulnerable state of mind, he is not immune to flights of fancy. While staying overnight at a luxury hotel ne...

Buried somewhere within Richard Matheson's 1975 novel, *Somewhere in Time*, lies a truly remarkable science fiction story yearning to break free. Some might argue it already did, inspiring the beloved 1980 film *Somewhere in Time*, which garnered so much affection that it effectively became the novel's title in subsequent reprints. This is a romantic fantasy conceived by an author born in the 1920s, and while I found it challenging to connect with on that level, I was only truly captivated durin...

All I can say is, it's blatantly obvious this book was written by a man. Richard Matheson spends a tedious amount of time trying to explain away his time travel premise and forgets to explain the most obvious part: how could a supposedly intelligent woman fall for his total weirdo of a main character? I saw the movie *Somewhere in Time* years ago and thought reading the book would be fun since they're USUALLY better. What I found was a super sugary story that wasn't very moving at all. Richard C...
