I didn't finish it. The story in Skaar: A Novel of Archaeology, Revolution, and Betrayal by Rowland B. Reeve is actually really good, but the Kindle edition is riddled with typos. Between the tense shifts and the way the point of view frequently jumps around within just a few paragraphs, my patience eventually wore thin. An incredibly well-crafted novel that dives deep into the complex overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy. Skaar: A Novel of Archaeology, Revolution, and Betrayal by Rowland B. Reeve is a must-read for anyone looking for a compelling historical fiction book that balances intense political drama with a gripping narrative. If you are searching for a new historical novel recommendation that brings this pivotal moment in history to life, this is definitely one to add to your reading list.

I love a good book that weaves in historical details, and ...

Reeve is an archaeologist himself, the expertise really shines through. The book is rich in detail, offering vivid descriptions of jungle villages and long-lost ruined cities. It opens a fascinating window into the early years of Mayan archaeology, capturing both i...
