Two US Marshals walk into a loony bin... I've never seen the movie, but I knewish the plot. Even so, I thought this was very cool. Kind of slow when it starts out, but the pace picks up midway through, and the ending is...oh, yeah.If you somehow don't know, Dennis Lehane's *Shutter Island* is about a man who is inwardly dealing with the death of his wife, while on assignment as a US Marshal to find out what happened to a patient who has gone missing from an asylum for the criminally insane. At ...

I'm probably in the minority here, never having read the book *Shutter Island* by Dennis Lehane or seen the Scorsese film with Leonardo DiCaprio. I actually got envious messages for being able to experience the story fresh. So, what can I really add? You all obviously know the story of U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, sent to solve a case at a psychiatric hospital on an island off the coast of Boston. The confusing plot that builds and twists over those four days on the island, only to detonate in a g...

If I hadn't seen the movie first, I probably would have given "Shutter Island" five stars. As a psychological thriller book review, I can say that Dennis Lehane's writing truly shines, creating an atmosphere of suspense and dread that keeps you hooked from the very first page. Knowing the plot beforehand definitely took away from the initial shock, but Lehane's masterful storytelling still captivated me. A must-read, even if you're familiar with the film adaptation!

It's been two months since I finished *Shutter Island* by Dennis Lehane, and I still can't shake it. Honestly, I thought it was flawless. Not a single boring moment. The story just flew by, but it wasn't rushed – the pacing was spot on.
I was hooked on the characters almost immediately. I can't even put my finger on why, but they were all just so compelling in their own way. Lehane gave us just enough of their history to make me care, and I'd love to see more of them. (Though, I definitely woul...

A very good book overall. It's a shame that the ending falters and becomes so predictable. It didn't leave me with a great feeling.
Despite this, I really enjoyed the setting, and Dennis Lehane manages to fully immerse you in the story of Shutter Island. For fans of suspenseful book reviews, this one's worth a read, just be prepared for a somewhat underwhelming conclusion.

What *was* that?!I watched the movie first and thought it wasn't enough. Even though it was incredible, I was really compelled to read the book. Regarding the book, I have to say thank you for the introduction first; without the introduction, I wouldn't have understood many things. Excellent character development, a phenomenal ending, the dialogue... I kept thinking about how this story was going to end. It seemed to me that the ending would be very difficult to pull off. But then I saw how arti...

Ashecliffe Hospital sat on the central plain of the island's northwestern side. Sat benignly, I might add. It looked nothing like a hospital for the criminally insane and even less like the military barracks it had been before that. Its appearance reminded most of us, in point of fact, of a boarding school.
Teddy and Chuck are called out to the island to try and figure out what happened to one of the inmates. She just escaped. There really isn't a way she could escape, but there you have it. ...

...he hated how fucked up and obscene the world and everything in it had become.Well... fuck. I decided to wait at least a day before writing this review because I needed time to process this book. But even though it's been more than 24 hours, I still haven't processed it even a little bit. It's been a long time since a book grabbed me like Shutter Island did. While I was reading Shutter Island, and I had to put it down to do other things, it followed me everywhere. When I wasn't reading it, I w...

I've read Mystic River, and this definitely isn't Mystic River. "Shutter Island" is an interesting novel with a fun twist, though I personally found it a bit unbelievable. Many people seem to rate it higher than I do. I haven't seen the movie adaptation, so I can't comment on whether it's better or worse, or how faithful it is to Dennis Lehane's book. In my humble opinion, it's Lehane-lite. Feel free to skip "Shutter Island" if you're looking for something with more depth. It's a decent thriller...

The night I finished *Shutter Island*, my mind was reeling for hours, and I couldn't shake it the next day. Seriously, I was hooked.*Shutter Island* marks a real shift from Dennis Lehane's Kenzie/Gennaro books, and it's the kind of novel that sticks with you long after you turn the final page. You'll be turning it over and over in your head.Honestly, the less you know going in, the better. Just trust me: this is an outstanding read, a real page-turner, and I can count on one hand the number of b...
