I picked up "Secret Origins" a while ago as part of the Superbundle at Storybundle.com. While working my way through my reading list this summer, it was one I somehow kept skipping over. I really wish I hadn't. Though at first glance, "Secret Origins" by Michael C. Bailey might seem like standard YA stuff, it's so much more than that. Bailey takes the usual ideas about what teens would do if they got superpowers and turns it into a genuine coming-of-age story. The established superheroes become...

A truly excellent start to a series. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the rest of Michael C. Bailey's *Secret Origins*. A great read for fans of superhero origin stories!

Half superhero story, half high school soap opera

A fun romp through what it might be like to be a teenage superhero. Michael C. Bailey's *Secret Origins* delivers a lighthearted yet engaging experience. Good pacing overall, and it kept my interest right through to the end. If you're looking for a quick and entertaining superhero book review, *Secret Origins* is worth checking out!

There are two fundamental flaws in **Secret Origins** by Michael C. Bailey. The first might be a formatting issue (perhaps not the author's fault), and the second definitely is.1) The book uses multiple points of view, which isn't inherently bad. However, some chapters switch between scenes or perspectives with only a paragraph break as the divider. Sometimes there are asterisks (**) or other symbols, but often there's nothing. This jars the reader, pulling them out of the story because there's ...

I was putting off reading "Secret Origins" by Michael C. Bailey for a while, honestly. I've been a little burnt out on young superhero stories lately. But I was desperate for something new to read, and my husband and daughter kept telling me I had to read it. Turns out, they were totally right! It's a fantastic book – really strong and upbeat. It follows these high school superhero wannabes as they come of age and start to grapple with the real world. I'm definitely going to start the next one i...

Carrie's parents are divorced, and her mom has dragged her back to her hometown (which, by the way, is having a slight problem with rogue robots). Carrie only manages to avoid being late on her first day of school by, oh, you know, *flying*. Turns out, an alien gave her superpowers. No big deal. She meets some kids at school. One of them, Matt, is pretty annoying at first, until he reveals he saw her fly—and that *he* can conjure objects out of thin air. Naturally, he offers to introduce her to s...

Way better than I thought it would be.Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from *Secret Origins* by Michael C. Bailey. Maybe one or two characters I'd find interesting, or a power that was a little different, with a predictable plot and some obvious editing mistakes. Instead, every single character, even the bad guys, completely grabbed my attention. The plot, while it follows a familiar superhero formula, had enough twists and turns to keep me hooked, and Michael C. Bailey's writing actually made ...

Okay, I'm going to be upfront: I don't usually pick up books by male authors with female main characters. For me, something about the flow or the characterization often feels off. It's not that I haven't found any I like, but it's rare, and generally not my thing. But **Secret Origins** by Michael C. Bailey totally surprised me. The author nailed the pacing and did an amazing job with his teenage female lead. He even added two other teenage girls who I thought were fantastic. I was shocked to fi...

Okay, as an adult reader, I’m definitely filing *Secret Origins* under “guilty pleasure.” Michael C. Bailey builds this totally believable town on Cape Cod, Massachusetts (okay, nobody has a Boston accent, but I’ll let it slide!), with characters that feel like they *could* have been you back in the day. It's clearly written for the YA crowd, but that didn't stop me from devouring the book in a couple of days whenever I had a spare moment, and now I’m just hoping a sequel drops soon. Character d...

Reviewed by A Simple Taste for Reading:http://simpletasteforreading.wordpres...What a great, action-packed book! And not just for young adults – I think anyone could enjoy it! "Secret Origins" by Michael C. Bailey was a refreshing break from some of the heavier stuff I've been reading lately. The main character is fantastic; I honestly wish I could meet her someday. Carrie Hauser's life goes on a rollercoaster – from good, to great, to bad, and then back to good again. She was living the perfect...
