Way too much personal drama and a snooze-fest romance, and definitely not enough spooky ghosts in "Phantom Evil" by Heather Graham. Honestly, I was expecting more chills!

4 Stars... I really enjoyed this introduction to the “Krewe Hunter Series.” It almost felt like I should already know some of the backstory, which makes me wonder if it's a spinoff from another Heather Graham series. Regardless, I was quickly drawn into the plot and the characters as they moved between the paranormal and very real-world evils. Heather Graham creates a captivating setting for *Phantom Evil* in New Orleans, a city steeped in history and its own kind of turmoil, which really enhanc...

Bourbon Street sign - note the Mardi Gras beads! ★★★½☆ (This is a review of the audiobook.) I enjoyed Jeff Cummings’s narration. I’ve listened to him before and haven’t had any major issues; however, I don't think his character voices were as distinct this time around, and his Southern accent is just okay. *shrugs* His pacing and inflection are good, but I wondered if he mixed up the voices/accents of the characters once or twice. As a man with a deep voice, he doesn’t...

I was looking for a lighthearted, fun paranormal book, something easy to read when you need a frivolous escape after some heavy, dark reads. What I got was a book completely lacking in depth. The characters are forgettable, and the two main characters don't seem to click at first, but end up in bed after a day or two. Then, they have even more sex throughout "Phantom Evil" by Heather Graham just because, why the hell not? I mean, they're working, trying to figure out if a woman was murdered or n...

I really tried to like this book, but I just couldn't get into it! Honestly, it's like a really long, slow, and boring episode of SCOOBY DOO, but without the humor or the Scooby Snacks. The Nicest Ghostbusters in the World head to New Orleans, where there's a house brimming with evil. The head honcho ghost is named Melvin C. Neutron, or Milton B. Marshmallow, or something equally forgettable. Apparently, he murdered a bunch of little kids with an axe way back in the 1870s. And over the years, co...

2.5 Adam Harrison, an investigator who worked for "the government where the government could not act officially", gathered a group of special individuals and formed a team whose task would be to investigate strange cases. Angela Hawkins, Whitney Tremont, Jake Mallory, Jenna Duffy, and Will Chan are part of that team, and he called Jackson Crow to lead them. Crow doesn't refuse to believe in the supernatural, but he would rather carefully check everything else first. Adam knows that Jackson Crow ...

Okay, so I kept giving Heather Graham chances, and I finally found one of her books I actually enjoyed. She writes paranormal romance, which is usually a winning combo for me. It just hasn't always worked out in the past. I really liked *Phantom Evil*, and thought Jackson was a good fit. He came off as arrogant at times, but hey, for an alpha male, that's not the worst thing. I thought he and Angela got intimate a little fast, and I also assumed this Krewe thing was going to span several books, ...

Feeble!*The Heather Graham who writes bestsellers may be "The Original Heather Graham," but I'm willing to bet that Heather Graham the actress could toast generic white bread with more style and engagement than this sorry excuse for a thriller.Graham has churned out an average of five novels every year for the past thirty years. How much originality is left? Imagine a high school junior staggering down Bourbon Street. "Gee whiz, I shouldn't have drunk those six hand grenades. And all those shots...

This is first and foremost a romance novel. When the two main characters are in bed together within 48 hours of meeting, and there are two explicit sex scenes, it's pretty clear where the focus lies. I wish I'd realized Mira was a Harlequin imprint before I bought "Phantom Evil" by Heather Graham. I picked up this book expecting the paranormal mystery that the blurb promises, especially set in post-Katrina New Orleans. Right from the start, there's a lot of emphasis on the Senator's wife being ...

I really wanted to love *Phantom Evil*. It had so much going for it: a team of ghost hunters in New Orleans! But somehow, Heather Graham's flat, almost clinical depiction of NOLA makes it feel like you could be reading about Anytown, USA. The descriptions of the scenery and local atmosphere are sterile and lack any real punch. The story moves way too fast to build any suspense. And two of the main characters jump into bed way too quickly, especially since there's hardly any believable chemistry ...
