A devastatingly beautiful train wreck of a story, told with wit and heart. *Oh, Lakshmi!* by Catherine Forsayeth will utterly consume you. Forsayeth somehow manages to find both the tragedy and the humor in this fictional world, crafted with the eye of a true storyteller. It's a promise fulfilled: wisdom, insight, tragedy, and just the right amount of snarky charm. This is a book you won't want to put down, but be warned, when life forces you to, you'll be itching to pick it right back up. A tru...

The writing has a few imperfections, but it's absolutely worth reading. The story centers on Ravi and his family as he continually strives to provide for them and remain strong. Tragedy soon hits, and Ravi finds himself in a series of challenging situations that he does his best to navigate. Each character is well-developed, possessing distinct personalities that enrich the narrative. Catherine Forsayeth excels at connecting the characters to the tragedy, making them believable even amidst circu...

A Captivating Tale of Loss & Triumph in India: *Oh, Lakshmi!* by Catherine ForsayethWhen I started *Oh, Lakshmi!*, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the tragic misfortunes at play, but I quickly realized it's a story told with genuine humor and profound wisdom. The characters are carefully crafted and truly come to life, quirks and all, interacting with such natural, intriguing, and heartwarming behaviors. The maternal figure, Mamta, dispenses wisdom that feels refreshingly realistic, sharing much of i...

Catherine Forsayeth's *Oh, Lakshmi!* is a true gem of a book. We're drawn into the seemingly simple life of Ravi, a goat herder whose only desire is a good life for his family. He's blessed with a loving, devoted wife and two daughters. Forsayeth initially provides a brief glimpse into Ravi's younger years and his marriage. However, the heart of the story unfolds during what begins as a typical day for Ravi, herding his goats, when a series of unfortunate events turn his world upside down. First...

Ravi isn't the richest man, or the most fortunate (he's blind in one eye, after all), but he's found a great deal of contentment in his life. His work as a goat farmer is going well, his two daughters are set for university and marriage, and he genuinely loves his wife, whom he was arranged to wed many years ago. That is, until one day, a seemingly innocuous event changes everything. A giant seed pod from a Moringa tree hits him in his good eye. His screams of pain and the unfortunate passing of...
