With Christmas right around the corner, I thought I'd try to get into the holiday spirit. Seemed like the perfect time to dive into a Christmas-themed story. And when I think of Christmas stories, I think Christmas movies. So I went straight for one of the best Christmas movies ever. Nope, not Home Alone. I'm talking about the book that sparked the epic first Die Hard film: **Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thriller** by Roderick Thorp. Joe Leland, a security consultant and ex-cop, ...

After reading Roderick Thorp's *Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thriller*, I'm now completely convinced that *Die Hard* is, without a doubt, a Christmas movie. Plenty of films are set during Christmas, but only a select few truly *feel* like Christmas, right?*Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thriller* is what inspired the movie *Die Hard*, which is the sole reason I picked it up. I don't usually jump into Book #2 first, but I've seen the movie based on *The Detective*, a...

“Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thriller” by Roderick Thorp Plenty of other reviewers have compared and contrasted this exciting, action-packed novel—a fascinating snapshot (albeit a fictitious one) of antiterrorist perspectives in the mid-to-late 1970s—with the iconic blockbuster 1988 film adaptation “Die Hard,” so I’ll just focus on the differences in weaponry. If you're looking for a thrilling read, this is a great choice! —In Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thril...

04/2021From 1979The blockbuster movie *Die Hard* closely follows the plot of Roderick Thorp's *Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thriller*, but there are some key differences. In the novel, the hero is Joe Leland. He's a grandfather, around 60 years old, his divorced wife is deceased, and it's his grown daughter who works in the terror-stricken Klaxon Building. The main villain is named Anton (Tony) Gruber, not Hans, and Leland already knows him. So, while the film is a faithful adapt...

The source material for the first DIE HARD movie, penned by an author at the peak of his powers. What's not to love? Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thriller is absolutely bursting with action. If you're looking for a pulse-pounding read, Roderick Thorp delivers. A must-read for action thriller fans!

Woop Woop! Sound the alarm! We've got a movie that's way better than the book! The main reason to pick up "Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thriller" by Roderick Thorp is because it's the foundation for the movie *Die Hard*, a stone-cold Christmas Classic (don't even argue, just accept it). Think of this book as Die Hard's origin story. This is one of those rare cases where the movie just utterly blows the book out of the water. Seriously. John McClane is charming, witty, and a total ...

Honestly, and with no shame, I knew that my opinion of this book would be tainted by close to three decades worth of the greatest action movie ever - Die Hard! Usually the book is better than the movie, but this movie is better (as expected) so . . . that's just how it is! Moving on . . . As an action book, this was decent. It takes place in the late 70s and in some ways it had aged well and in some ways it hasn't. With our modern technology, some people may have a hard time enjoying the CB co...

This review can also be found on Books as portable pieces of thought-blog.I grew up watching action films with my Dad just as I grew up reading Harlequin novels with my Mum. Until I got older and broke out of the predetermined genre preferences, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson—before his descend to cray cray—were my childhood. Die Hard is one of those films I knew by heart and that has stood the test of time better than most. So, when I saw that the book th...

I received a digital copy of "Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thriller" by Roderick Thorp from NetGalley, so a big thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read it. If you're anything like me, you've probably seen the movie *Die Hard* a million times. I hadn't read the book, so my husband and I decided to make "Nothing Lasts Forever: The Original Die Hard Thriller" our next buddy read. First off, this book came out quite a while ago, so expect some dated re...
