Quick Cussler read in Feb 2023I think this is the third time I've read some of the Dirk Pitt novels, and the first during my Goodreads years. There are definitely a considerable number of new novels since I last read the series, so we'll see if I want to start buying them. That said, I remember the general storylines of the novels I've read so far this year, but that hasn't lessened my enjoyment. This novel, like the last, is considerably stronger than the earlier ones, and I'm hoping they keep g...

I think this book, the sixth in the series, is where Clive Cussler really finds his footing in terms of crafting action-packed, suspenseful thrillers. Right from the start, "Night Probe!" was one of those stories that completely hooked me; I just had to keep reading to see what happened next. It's a real page-turner!Despite enjoying "Night Probe!" for the most part, I can only give it three stars due to a couple of nagging issues. One character acted like a complete idiot – so naive and gullible...

The early Dirk Pitt adventures are always a blast—slightly dated fun, though for some reason I just couldn't fully connect with the plot of *Night Probe!* by Clive Cussler. This one just didn't quite grab me like the others. This time around, Pitt's on a mission to recover a long-lost treaty signed before World War I.One copy went down with an express train in the Hudson River, while the other was aboard an ocean liner that sank in the St. Lawrence River. The main reason I struggled to engage with...

During World War I, a desperate Britain secretly inks a treaty with the United States. The ship transporting this treaty across the Atlantic vanishes without a trace. Decades later, a hint of this mysterious agreement surfaces, and suddenly, anyone in Britain who might know about it starts turning up dead.Enter Dirk Pitt. He gets drawn in when it becomes clear that the treaty might be resting at the bottom of the ocean, inside a long-lost shipwreck. What follows is a whirlwind of espionage and t...

Decades before World War I engulfed Europe, dragging the British Empire into the trenches of France, a long-lost treaty held the power to rewrite history—if not for a pair of fateful accidents. Clive Cussler's sixth Dirk Pitt adventure, *Night Probe!*, plunges our hero into a high-stakes, historically significant quest for a treaty that would have sold Canada to the United States. This comes as the aforementioned nation teeters on the brink of collapse, and the United Kingdom dispatches its top ...

Even though it feels a bit dated in places, Clive Cussler's *Night Probe!* is still a blast to read. The story clips along at a great pace from beginning to end, and it completely held my attention. I loved how Cussler referenced James Bond throughout *Night Probe!*, even changing his name to 'Brian Shaw' and alluding to the 'one time' Bond was actually married, but his wife died shortly after. The book picks up not long after *Vixen 03*, and it brings back a character or two from that previous ...

Okay, I'll confess. I'm a total sucker for flea markets and yard sales when I'm hunting for books. The absolute BEST is when someone's wife is clearing out her husband's book collection. Talk about hitting the jackpot for a bookworm like me who's addicted to suspense, action, and those 'secret agent' vibes. This particular yard sale score landed me a BOX LOAD of paperback AND (you gotta love it) hardback copies of Clive Cussler novels and other treasures.
Another major win? In the very near fut...

So, I'm kicking myself for only just discovering the joys of reading Clive Cussler. Seriously, Clive, where have you been all my life?!"Night Probe!" is the third Cussler novel I've ever read, and it’s the sixth to feature his beloved action hero, Dirk Pitt. It's crystal clear to me now why so many people are hooked on the Pitt series.Weird name aside, Dirk Pitt is a pretty lovable hero. Tough but funny, charismatic but serious when he needs to be, Pitt is basically an American James Bond, minus...

I've read all the Dirk Pitt books (well, maybe not the very latest ones), and "Night Probe!" definitely ranks as one of my absolute favorites. In my opinion, "Night Probe!" (published in 1981) is the best of Clive Cussler's earlier Dirk Pitt novels. And by 'earlier,' I mean before "Treasure"... for no particular reason except that I feel the tone and style of the novels shifted more towards his contemporary style by the time "Treasure" came out. I re-read "Night Probe!" because I absolutely love...

In May 1914, two couriers vanish in separate disasters, taking with them the only two copies of the North American Treaty. The governments of the United States and Great Britain order a complete cover-up, acting as if the treaty never existed. Fast forward to February 1989: Heidi Milligan, a stunningly beautiful naval commander (naturally), discovers an obscure reference to the long-lost document, now worth billions. The race is on to recover one copy of the treaty from the ocean depths. I'll ad...
