Livestock being herded on the Navajo reservation in 2017 (Image credit: Rebfarhi, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons)Another tight, gritty, and action-packed Navajo Nation Mystery from R. Allen Chappell. Either by the fourth book the characters have grown on me so much that I'm no longer bothered by anything in the writing, or the prose itself has genuinely improved. I suspect it’s a bit of both.In Mojado: A Navajo Nation Mystery, tribal investigator Charlee Yazee and his two veteran troublemak...

I stumbled upon the Navajo Nation Mystery series by R. Allen Chappell quite by accident (it’s seriously underrated!). What a fantastic find! I’m currently halfway through the series, and the fourth installment, Mojado: A Navajo Nation Mystery, is easily the best one yet. You can jump right into the series with this book as it works perfectly as a stand-alone. However, to really get a feel for the lead characters—Charlie Yazzie and Thomas Begay—and the world they inhabit, I’d recommend starting w...

A must-read for Hillerman fans.

I truly enjoyed reading Mojado: A Navajo Nation Mystery. I have deeply missed the Leaphorn and Chee series by the late Tony Hillerman, and this book by R. Allen Chappell perfectly fills that void. If you are looking for your next great mystery novel, this is a fantastic choice.

I’m really enjoying this series, and once again, R. Allen Chappell proves his incredible skill as a storyteller. Mojado: A Navajo Nation Mystery feels a bit different from the previous entries, focusing primarily on the lifelong bond between Charlie Yazzie, Thomas Begay, and Harley Ponyboy. Chappell doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of life, candidly discussing the struggles Begay and Ponyboy face in maintaining their sobriety and using their journey to shed light on the broader issue of...

A gripping tale of evil crossing the border and being stopped by our brave friends of the Diné. A fast-paced and perfect sequel.

Mojado: A Navajo Nation Mystery by R. Allen Chappell is a gripping story of evil crossing the border and being dealt with by our brave friends of the Diné. This fast-paced and perfect sequel is a stellar addition to the series and a great complement to the previous stories. If you are looking for a page-turning mystery novel, this is a must-read.

It’s not quite Tony Hillerman, but then again, who is? That said, Mojado: A Navajo Nation Mystery by R. Allen Chappell is a real page-turner that I simply couldn’t put down. It’s an edge-of-your-seat read that I highly recommend for anyone looking for a gripping new mystery novel.

An enjoyable read. It feels a bit different from the previous entries in the series, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it would be helpful to have read at least one of the earlier books to get a better handle on the character dynamics. I really love the cultural insights scattered throughout Mojado: A Navajo Nation Mystery by R. Allen Chappell. Plus, the descriptions of the locations really hit home for me, especially since I grew up in that area. If you are looking for a compelling mys...

A journey down red dirt roadsR. Allen Chappell truly understands the Navajo people, their customs, and the landscape of the region. Mojado: A Navajo Nation Mystery is my favorite of his stories so far, effortlessly transporting the reader through towering red stone canyons and along deep, rutted backroads. I absolutely love the characters, the vivid settings, and the intricate mystery he weaves. I highly recommend this book to any fans of Western thrillers or Southwest fiction. You won't be disa...
