: Strange, I looked back at a comment I'd made in 2015, and I think this comment sums up why I dislike the Legend series. To save you some time, here's my reason:
Because reading/watching a bunch of Japanese action-themed manga/anime and then writing something based on them and then labeling it as a 'dystopian novel' AND THEN devoting most of said novel to tell us how cool and awesome (and good looking) your MCs are really doesn't cut it.
Pre-review:
I read Legen...

4 out of 5 stars. Legend fell just shy of a perfect 5 for me because of a couple of minor issues, but overall, it was pure gold. What I truly enjoyed:• The dual, unique perspectives of the hunter and the hunted. I absolutely loved that the girl was tasked with hunting Day, the criminal, as I usually see this trope played out in reverse.• The action scenes. Having already read The Young Elites, I knew Marie Lu was talented in this area (that ending duel!). While there weren't any magic powers this...

\n “Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything's possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time.”\nSo, I finally decided to give Marie Lu's *Legend* a shot after wading through tons of reviews – some singing its praises, others not so much. Sometimes you just have to see for yourself, right? And *Legend* was… alright. Pretty good compared to some of the absolute garbage I’ve read lately, but it wasn't exactly mind-blowing....

Okay, so I almost gave "Legend" four stars. But then I told myself, "Girl, you gotta stop handing out these knee-jerk four-star ratings to YA dystopias just because you dig the genre and get a kick out of seeing teens in trouble, you weirdo." And it's true. These books are pure candy for me. And I honestly don't care all that much that most of them aren't super believable. I tend to rate books in this genre based on how much I enjoy them rather than their literary merit, because I'm not a profes...

I'm such a sucker for dystopian novels. I love the energy and the rush they give me. When I got my copy of *Legend* by Marie Lu, I was thrilled. Turns out, I had every reason to be! This is one of the good ones—a dystopian novel well worth reading.
We've got two narrators: the notorious criminal, Day, and the noble citizen, June, who's also a little rebellious. Day has escaped death before, and he's only trying to survive while taking care of his family, especially his sick brother. June got a ...

Are you kidding me!?!? What just happened?!? This book is *ABSOLUTELY UNPUTDOWNABLE*!! Yes, I realize that’s not a word, but I have to admit I’m a bit sleep deprived seeing as I stayed up all night reading this FRICKEN AMAZING book!! Okay let me just tell you now, this review is going to be an absolute, incoherent gush-fest. I haven’t felt this pumped about a YA dystopian novel since *The Hunger Games* came to town. Mind you, I’ve read some pretty awesome stories since, such as *Divergent*, *Blo...

Do you love an action-packed adventure? I sure do! Marie Lu's *Legend* is a total blast, following two teens from opposite sides of a futuristic war in the Republic of America's Los Angeles. If you're looking for exciting YA book reviews, this might be it.June, a brilliant 15-year-old prodigy, is training to become a military superstar. But when her brother is murdered, she sets out to find the killer—and discovers that all evidence points to Day, a notorious criminal already wanted by the Repub...

\"Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything’s possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time.” He looks toward the railway car’s open door, where streaks of dark water blanket the world. “You try to walk in the light.”Quotes like that are the reason why I love Marie Lu’s books. Well, okay, quotes like that and the fact that she’s a really great writer and always creates characters I can’t help but adore! The thing with dea...
