‘I warn you that what you’re starting to read is full of loose ends and unanswered questions,’ writes Jack Finney in the opening paragraph of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." It’s a statement that sets expectations but also starts to elevate the anxiety level. What if you were a respected doctor in the community and one of your patients pulled you aside and told you that they think their family members are not who they appear to be? You take them for their word, and after closer inspection and i...

“Tell me this: could these spores conceivably be some sort of weird alien organism with the ability to imitate, in fact, duplicate a human body? Turn themselves, for all practical purposes, into a kind of human being, indistinguishable from the real thing?”…Somewhere we had to find sanctuary, and there was none—not a home at which we dared to appear, not a face, even that of a lifelong friend, to which we dared risk appealing for help.A spoiler-free review of the novel:Something sinister is happ...

Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a science fiction classic from 1956, might just be the first sci-fi film I ever laid eyes on. It aired on British television a few years later, and I've been hooked and fascinated every single time I've watched it since. Directed by Don Siegel, it's one of those movies that has stood the test of time, inspiring several remakes.
Only recently did I discover that it was based on a book, simply titled Invasion of the Body Snatchers, by Jack Finney. The story was ori...

Having seen several film adaptations of Jack Finney's *Invasion of the Body Snatchers*, I thought I knew what I was getting into. Even so, I found *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* to be a genuinely gripping read. I can only imagine how much more impactful it must have been for those who encountered the book before the movies! My only real complaint is that the plot kind of fizzles out with a weak ending.
Of course, this book has been analyzed to death. One of the prevailing theories paints it a...

They get you when you sleep...Dr. Miles Bennell is baffled when a string of his patients come to him with the same unsettling story: their loved ones seem to have been replaced by emotionless imposters. His former girlfriend, Becky, and his friend, Jack, soon uncover the horrifying truth: an alien species of human duplicates, grown from plant-like pods, is taking over their town. I've seen all the movie adaptations of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", so I basically knew the plot. I guess that's ...

This 1950s sci-fi classic, *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* by Jack Finney, certainly evokes small-town America, where it was originally written, but the chilling paranoia of infiltration still hits hard today. It's a truly timeless story of alien invasion.
You're instantly thrown into the thick of it as Becky Driscoll tells Doctor Miles Bennell that her cousin Wilma’s uncle, Ira, has been acting strangely. He looks like himself, but his personality is just…off. Human emotion, or the lack there...

Invasion of the Body Snatchers - What an extraordinary reading experience. The fascination comes from knowing this is a science fiction novel. You watch as the characters discover the body snatchers are aliens, which isn't really a spoiler since even the movie and newer editions are called Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's a classic sci-fi book, and a real page-turner.The eerie atmosphere kicks in right away. The narrator, Dr. Miles Bennell, tells us about strange encounters his patients are ...

This is one of the most original science fiction novels I've ever encountered. The subtle yet powerful commentary on socialization and the identification of 'otherness' makes "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" essential reading for anyone studying social science. Jack Finney masterfully depicts the unraveling of society in a uniquely chilling way that will stay with you long after you turn the final page. If you're looking for thought-provoking science fiction, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is ...

Wow, *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* was way better than I expected! Hooray for pleasant surprises! I thought it'd be pure pulp. I figured this was a throwaway, dime-store sci-fi novel riding the coattails of the two film adaptations. I haven't actually sat down and watched either the 1956 or '78 movies (though I *have* seen *The World's End*, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's loose take on it), so the plot hadn't been totally spoiled, and reading the book would provide some surprises and a bit of ...

When my son called last night and asked what I was doing, I told him I had just finished reading Invasion of the Body Snatchers and was thinking of going down to the basement to look for seed pods......(he cracked up)I think everyone pretty much knows this story, and oh what a blast it was reading this sci-fi novel from the past. This super fast-paced work was so much better than I thought it would be and had a far different ending from the movie version I remember. If I was not already familiar...
