Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy is an intriguing tale, primarily because it centers on an 'alicorn,' or a unicorn’s horn. Strangely, despite the premise feeling like it belongs in a European setting, a large portion of the book takes place in the USA and leans heavily into Indian myth and legend rather than anything else.
Only the opening scenes and a rushed conclusion take place in Europe; that ending is actually a major part of the book’s problem. After spending most of the novel trekk...

As a huge fan of expanded media within film franchises—think Star Wars novels or Mass Effect tie-ins—I decided to dive into an Indiana Jones book for the first time. I picked up Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy by Rob MacGregor, and... well, it started off pretty well. It’s just a shame it couldn't keep that momentum going.
Basically, the plot centers on a unicorn horn with some very vague abilities. I actually had to double-check the lore on a wiki, but apparently, it grants charisma pow...

I picked up Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy by Rob MacGregor at the library, expecting a fun, lighthearted diversion, but honestly, it was a major letdown. The book is formulaic to a fault; it somehow manages to fall completely flat despite checking off every expected box for an Indiana Jones adventure. While the premise is decent enough and I appreciated the inclusion of unicorn lore and the setting in the Four Corners area—with events centered around indigenous landmarks—the execution j...

Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy by Rob MacGregor is okay, but I’m docking one star because of the sexism—which, while typical for the time it was written, is still pretty annoying to read today. If you're looking for a classic adventure book review, this one is a bit of a mixed bag.

I absolutely loved the concept behind Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy. Using a unicorn's horn—an alicorn—as the central MacGuffin for the story feels exactly right; it’s the perfect kind of lesser-known relic for a younger, pre-movie Indy. There is so much to enjoy here: Indy exploring remote ruins in the American Southwest, a cast of shady characters ranging from a rival archaeologist to the Italian mafia, and a genuinely believable love interest. I particularly loved that it’s Marcus Br...

I've thoroughly enjoyed every one of the Indiana Jones prequel novels so far. Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy by Rob MacGregor takes us on a wild ride from the American Southwest all the way to Italy, with the hunt centered on what is supposedly the last existing "Unicorn horn." It delivers all the high-stakes action and adventure you’d expect from an Indy story, and of course, there’s an intriguing female lead thrown into the mix as well. Just like the previous volumes, this book really ...

"Indy had no idea what was going on. None of it made sense. Everything around him had suddenly shifted into a strange twisted nightmare. It all started about the time he crawled into that crevice. And he had the feeling it was only beginning."Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy by Rob MacGregor is set before the events of the films, following Indy as he is swept up in a mystery surrounding a staff believed to be the last remaining horn of a unicorn. Alongside Indy, several others are vying fo...

Meh. These books have been okay at best, but Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy feels a little lacking, partly because of how Rob MacGregor breaks the narrative into chunks that feel like disconnected short stories. We travel from France to the American Southwest to Italy, and while I realize Raiders of the Lost Ark followed a similar globe-trotting formula, at least there felt like a compelling reason to be traveling all over the world in service of a single, cohesive plot. It feels like Ma...

3.5 Stars – This series has been the perfect poolside and beach read for me this week. I really enjoyed the setting of Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy by Rob MacGregor; the Colorado mountains and the southwest desert landscape, combined with the local legends, created a fantastic atmosphere. It wasn't the kind of backdrop I was expecting for a mystery-adventure revolving around a mystical alicorn, so it was a pleasant surprise and a great juxtaposition. Definitely a fun pick for your next...

Summer, 1928. Classes at a small private college in New England have wrapped up, and our favorite archaeologist is planning to spend his vacation in the American Southwest. The Four Corners region—where Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico meet—is the setting for this adventure. These are the lands of the ancient Anasazi, who left behind countless cliff dwellings and petroglyphs in the sandstone of Mesa Verde and beyond. But Indy’s past just won't leave him alone. An old enemy, a college swee...
