I don't usually pick up time travel stories, but "Indiana Belle: A Roaring Twenties Mystery" was a genuinely fun read. Being from Illinois myself, I found John A. Heldt's portrayal of the 1920s setting particularly engaging. The whole concept of altering the past when you travel back is fascinating – it could lead to good things or bad, but you never know for sure what the consequences will be. There's a strong romantic element in this book too, which I really enjoyed. I'd definitely recommend g...

‘Indiana Belle: A Roaring Twenties Mystery’ is a time-traveling adventure by American author John A. Heldt. We join the story in the present day and find our protagonist, Cameron Coelho, mesmerized by a photograph from long ago. This sets him on an adventure which sends him back in time to 1925. He manages this by painless but rather vague means. However, this is a fantasy adventure, so the reader needs to suspend reality and become immersed in the tale.
I found some of the dialogue a little pr...

I wrestled with how to rate "Indiana Belle: A Roaring Twenties Mystery" by John A. Heldt. The writing itself is excellent – very polished and professional. But a few things held it back for me.
The beginning was strong, but once the main character landed in 1925, the story really slowed down for about twenty chapters. The biggest issue was a complete lack of conflict until we were about 65% of the way through. For me, a story needs some kind of struggle or challenge to really grab you.
And spe...

*Indiana Belle: A Roaring Twenties Mystery* by John A. Heldt is the third book I've read by this author, and the second in his *American Journey* series (see my review of *Mercer Street*). This is number three in the series but they can all be read as a standalone. This book focuses on Cameron, a doctoral student researching Indiana in the 1920s. When he buys a bunch of old papers from that era, it sends him down a path he ne...

John A. Heldt is back, and this time he's whisking us away to the Roaring Twenties – an era of flappers, speakeasies, and old-time church revivals. The country's undergoing massive changes, the lines between free-spirited living and conservative values are sharply drawn, and crime lurks in every shadow. But first, we're time-traveling to the near future… welcome to John A. Heldt’s **Indiana Belle: A Roaring Twenties Mystery**.
Cameron Coelho is knee-deep in his dissertation on 1920s life when h...

John A. Heldt's Indiana Belle: A Roaring Twenties Mystery is an absolutely captivating read that grabbed my attention from the very first page and held it until the very end. I honestly wish I could give it more than 5 stars!I found it incredibly easy to connect with and understand the characters, especially Candice Bell. She's truly one of the most wonderfully crafted characters I've encountered in a long time – remarkably well-developed, immensely likable, and refreshingly free of any Mary-Sue...

The Roaring Twenties live in our imaginations, fueled by books like F. Scott Fitzgerald’s *The Great Gatsby* and movies set in that era – the glitz, the glam, and the hidden speakeasies. It was a time of women trying their hands at working outside the home and building their own businesses, albeit sometimes hiding behind pseudonyms and nicknames.
When Cameron is given the option of studying the very family surrounding Dr. Bell, he immediately jumps at the opportunity. He turns Dr. Bell’s polici...

It's February 2017, and Cameron Coelho, a history doctoral student, is immersed in writing his dissertation on the social norms and cultural dynamics of Middle America during the Roaring Twenties. He acquires some private papers belonging to Candice Bell, a reporter for an Indiana newspaper in the 1920s. These papers include personal letters, business correspondence, interview notes, diary pages, and a photograph. He gets the chance to travel back to 1925 to meet Miss Bell but is strictly forbid...

There's just so much to love about *Indiana Belle: A Roaring Twenties Mystery* by John A. Heldt that it's hard to pin it down to one genre. You've got a sweet romance that simmers throughout the story. From page one, it's packed with mystery, intrigue, and a dash of good old-fashioned adventure. Then there's the historical setting, brought to life with some really significant events of the era. Oh, and how could I forget the time travel—a truly crucial element!I've been a fan of John Heldt's boo...

I'm a huge fan of time travel stories, and after reading and reviewing the first two books in this series, I jumped at the chance to read the third, *Indiana Belle: A Roaring Twenties Mystery*. While there's some ongoing storyline, each book can absolutely be enjoyed on its own. Now, one of the golden rules of time travel is: never alter what's meant to happen, or you risk changing the future. But what if you fall head over heels for someone destined to die horribly on a specific date? Do you sta...
