What a fun audiobook! I'll be honest, I have a real love-hate thing with time travel stories. They often get on my nerves because they go so over-the-top and nonsensical that they make even *Supernatural* look believable. But *In Times Like These* didn't completely trash current science. It hand-waved away a lot of the tricky bits in a satisfying (if a bit vague) way. And the characters, even though I wish they were a little more fleshed out, were still worth rooting for. It was engaging, enjoya...

Five mind-bending stars for *In Times Like These*! Seriously, one of the best time travel adventures I've read in ages. I can't wait to dive into book two! This book was an absolutely incredible ride. As a huge time travel geek, I have to say, Nathan Van Coops' *In Times Like These* has quickly become one of my all-time favorite time travel novels. It kept me glued to my seat for most of the story; a fast-paced, action-packed, totally mind-blowing time travel adventure! If a time travel story do...

This is a fun time travel romp that I could easily relate to. As a thirty-something myself and a child of the 80s, it was fun to go back to 1985. However, *In Times Like These* doesn't reference enough pop culture like *Ready Player One* does. This book focuses on the action and the science of time travel. Some hardcore techies may eat up the science behind it all, and I agree some explanation as to how time travel is possible is warranted, but as a reader, there were times when the science and ...

Other reviewers have mentioned that while *In Times Like These* starts slowly, taking its time through the first half or two-thirds, it supposedly picks up the pace later. I'll never find out. I occasionally persevere with slow-starting books, but only when the writing is absolutely flawless and the characters genuinely captivate me. Sadly, that wasn't the case with Nathan Van Coops' *In Times Like These*. The time-traveling characters in *In Times Like These* come across as strangely immature. ...

I thoroughly enjoyed *In Times Like These*. The core concept is brilliant: *accidental* time travel. Nathan Van Coops skillfully introduces five unique characters, unafraid to put them through the wringer or give them a break. He's also clearly put in a ton of work figuring out a believable method of time travel – one that doesn’t hand the protagonists an easy ride. This book is a real page-turner, and I'm eager to read more from Nathan Van Coops, as he's clearly dedicated to his craft for the r...

If I'm absolutely knackered but still desperate to read another chapter to see what happens, I know I've got a good book on my hands. If I catch myself mulling over the storyline while I'm at work, then it's definitely a good book (or maybe just a really slow day!). And if I finish the book and immediately crave more, well, that seals the deal. The structure, character development, and plot in "In Times Like These" were all clearly well thought-out. It must have been a proper nightmare to get all...

Imagine you and a few friends get zapped by lightning and suddenly find yourselves in 1985. Where would you crash for the night? What would you do to get back to your own time? "It’s an odd feeling to be thinking of a specific time as being home, but [Benjamin realizes] more and more how much it matters to [him] to be in the same flow of time as [all his] friends." Just when Benjamin and his friends seem hopelessly stuck in a year of big hair and leg warmers, they stumble upon Dr. Quickly, who’s...

I finally finished "In Times Like These" last night! Nathan Van Coops did a great job wrapping everything up. But I admit, even as a time travel (TT) enthusiast, I found myself quite befuddled trying to keep the story straight amongst all the TT "rules". Don't get me wrong, some of the most important factors in a TT novel are the means of travel (e.g., time machine, magic gem, meditation) and the rules! Can one travel to a time where he or she already exists? Do you need an object from the time y...

Absolutely awesome! This might just be the best time travel book I've ever picked up. And can you believe it's Nathan Van Coops' first! The plot and characters feel so real and well-developed. The story pulls you in with its everyday feel, and the way the characters react to their crazy situation feels totally believable. Van Coops builds the plot bit by bit, often getting close to being too technical or just plain boring, but then he suddenly throws the characters—and the reader—off in some comp...
