I'm in absolute agony. After reading Lily King's *Heart the Lover*, I'm just utterly devastated. This book... it just wrecks you in the best possible way. If you're looking for a book review that tells you whether to buy *Heart the Lover*, let me be clear: yes, a thousand times yes. But be prepared to feel EVERYTHING. Lily King has crafted a masterpiece of emotional storytelling, and I'm still reeling. Definitely one of the best book releases of the year, if you're into heart-wrenching reads.

My only 5-star read of October… dare I call it a masterpiece?! I devoured "Heart the Lover" in a single day because I was desperate to know how it all ended! This was my first Lily King novel, and it definitely won't be my last. The emotional rollercoaster of these characters and their relationships was just so brilliantly done. By the end, I was an absolute mess of tears, and when a book can wrench that kind of emotion out of me… it's an easy 5 stars. If you're looking for a book review that sa...

In a Nutshell: A piece of literary fiction focusing on a young woman, the men in her life, and how they shaped her journey. It starts off a bit shaky (probably because the main characters are young adults and didn’t really click with me), but it finds its footing as it goes along. It’s not as whimsical as the cover might suggest, but the title, "Heart the Lover" by Lily King, really does fit the story well. It’s thought-provoking, but also felt a bit dragged out, pretentious, and unnecessarily d...

Lily King owes me serious money for tearing my heart out and stomping all over it. 4.5 stars. If you're looking for emotional book reviews, look no further than "Heart the Lover". Lily King has crafted a masterpiece that will leave you breathless... and possibly heartbroken.

I don’t read a ton of literary fiction, but Lily King, who's new to me, has me rethinking some life choices! If you’re navigating your twenties, or looking back with the wisdom of hindsight on those formative years, this story will hit home. It definitely did for me. Suddenly, I was transported back to college, where life revolved around friends, classes, work, and obsessing over the future – especially who I'd be sharing it with. Our unnamed narrator, a creative writing major, is taken under the...

2.5 stars. *Heart the Lover* is the first book I've read by Lily King, and I'm left with mixed feelings. I really wanted to love it, but it just didn't quite get there for me.
I enjoyed the characters, the (admittedly pretentious) literary discussions, and the romantic red herring at the start. Above all, I loved the bittersweet tone that ran through the whole story. The main character is a writer, and the book is structured as her finally writing a story about "you," though we don't find out w...

Where do I even begin? https://emmareadstoomuch.substack.com...I felt giddy almost immediately while reading this. I knew from pretty early on that the ache in my heart, the urgent need to turn the pages, the raw reality of this world and these people and their relationships meant I was never going to forget this book. Each year, I generally read more books, but I give out the same number of five-star ratings. Sometimes this feels like a lack of imagination, but this book reminded me that I save...
