While this installment of the Gaunt's Ghosts saga unfolds on Monthax, where a brutal battle against Chaos is brewing, most of the story is told through flashbacks, each focusing on a different member of Gaunt's Ghosts. Abnett uses this approach to flesh out the backstory, showing us earlier battles that involved various members of the unit. It also gives us a deeper look at the team's personalities. Everything is woven together seamlessly. Major props!I really dug this book, and it reminded me a...

4. 5 ⭐
Dan Abnett's *Ghostmaker (Gaunt's Ghosts, #2)* is a relentless, gritty dive back into the grim world of Gaunt's Ghosts. This isn't just a war story; it's a character study painted with the mud and blood of the battlefield. Abnett doesn't shy away from the brutal realities of war, and *Ghostmaker* doubles down on the emotional toll it takes on the men and women fighting on the front lines.
The action is intense, the stakes are high, and the tension is palpable. Abnett's writing pulls yo...

A real page-turner. Dan Abnett, as always, knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat, even though this book, *Ghostmaker (Gaunt's Ghosts, #2)*, collects several stories of different comrades of Gaunt. If you're looking for a thrilling military science fiction read, *Ghostmaker* by Dan Abnett won't disappoint!

Nope, not for me. Couldn’t even finish Ghostmaker (Gaunt's Ghosts, #2) by Dan Abnett. Just couldn't get into it.

93 out of 100. Actually, scratch that – definitely better than the first book. *Ghostmaker*, the second novel in Dan Abnett's *Gaunt’s Ghosts* series, is seriously good. In the first book, *First and Only*, we were introduced to Gaunt and his troops. Here, it feels like Abnett had a contract for several more books, so he cleverly wrote a short story or novelette for each "important" character, then combined them into one big, overarching storyline. He added a couple of pages between each short s...

3.5 stars"Ghostmaker," the second installment in Dan Abnett's "Gaunt's Ghosts" series, is structured as a collection of shorter stories, each spotlighting a different member of Gaunt's company, which then build into a larger narrative involving more significant military actions.Abnett excels at character development, ensuring we connect with these Ghosts. He understands the formula for compelling military sci-fi, executing it with a smooth and engaging writing style. If you're looking for a char...

After the awesome start to the series with *First and Only*, Dan Abnett seems to stumble a bit with *Ghostmaker*. The novel feels like a weird mix of two things that don't quite gel: it's part collection of short stories, and part standalone story crammed into the final section. Sadly, it doesn't really succeed as either. There are some great character moments – Larkin's chapter, in particular, is one of my favorite mini-stories from Black Library – but the short stories would have been much bet...

Expanding on the main characters beyond the protagonist, breathing life into them... if they survive.
Genre: Science Fiction.
What it tells us: *Ghostmaker* by Dan Abnett takes us to Monthax, a jungle and mud planet that is the new destination for the Tanith First (and the Last and Only, since the planet Tanith was lost after an attack by Chaos forces), better known as Gaunt's Ghosts. As this Imperial Guard unit, part of the Empire's enormous force fighting in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, deploy...

"When six become one - a story from many stories sums up Ghostmaker"
Ghostmaker by Dan Abnett is a prime example of both brilliance and direness that comes from Black Library, the Games Workshop publishing arm of the company. It has some of the best Gaunt stories in the series and in my opinion, also the worst, mainly due to the format used by the author. I know, critical of the great Dan Abnett – heresy, I hear you cry! What’s book two in the Gaunt's Ghosts series about? It’s really a collect...

Dan Abnett's Warhammer 40K novels absolutely deliver the goods. *Ghostmaker* is the second Gaunt's Ghosts novel, and I dug it even more than the first, *First and Only (Warhammer 40,000)*. I'm no Warhammer 40K lore master; I picked up these books because my brother-in-law wouldn't stop raving about them. And he was right to rave! I guess it boils down to personal taste, but these novels nail exactly what they're trying to do, no fancy stuff. What you get is military sci-fi from the thick of it. ...
