I absolutely loved reading "Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story." Nghịch Tử has done something truly special, creatively merging paranormal action with the richness of Vietnamese culture. It's refreshing to finally find a retelling rooted in Vietnamese folklore. There just aren't enough books like this out there, making it a truly unique and captivating read. If you're looking for unique ghost stories, this is it.The world-building in "Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story" is exceptional. Nghịch Tử continu...

In this paranormal fantasy, ghosts, evil dogs, demons, and the undead all conspire to thwart the heroes' desperate attempts to escape a haunted village in Vietnam with their lives and souls intact. "Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story" delivers a rocking, non-stop action-packed narrative where Ðiên Muc and Vû Thanh forge a bond of friendship amidst a literal descent into Hell. I wholeheartedly recommend this novel. Not only is "Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story" by Nghịch Tử a genuinely fun read, but I...

Woah. Let me just say, I was not expecting this! The foreword itself mentions that Vietnamese culture isn't as widely known as Japanese or Chinese culture, so my curiosity was already piqued. I couldn’t wait to dive in! Myths and ancient stories are always exciting, but old lore from a different culture merged with a fictional story of a female protagonist who is a SURVIVOR? Yep, I was sold instantly. "Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story" is a fantasy thriller with fantastic supernatural elements, bu...

In ‘Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story’ - a supernatural adventurous fantasy thriller and dark horror with mystery, Nghịch Tử has presented us a well-contemplated and absorbingly told story. It's filled with realistic depictions of black magic, phantom horses, maggots with human-like faces, ghosts, pigheaded demons, and treachery, all designed to keep us thoroughly entertained. The story revolves around Vu Thanh, a college girl who returns to her village to celebrate the festivals.Diên Mục, naive in...

Let me just say, I went into this with high hopes, and Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story absolutely blew them away. Nghịch Tử's novel has quickly become a new favorite. You honestly can't go wrong with a story that throws in demons, black magic, spirits, adventure, danger, and a creepy children's rhyme steeped in myth. What really grabbed me was the incredibly deep and thoughtful world-building. Unlike so many other books I've read lately, I couldn't just skim through paragraphs. I had to slow down...

The Half-Alive Series is an ongoing book series written by Nghịch Tử and translated and edited by Viet H. Nguyen. This review focuses on Book 1, **Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story**, which has been shared on Facebook and Amazon. It fits perfectly into the Fantasy Thriller and Supernatural Adventure genres. Each of the 13 chapters, plus a prologue and epilogue, reads relatively well and quickly. However, it's not a light read or one you can simply skim! This is especially true if you're unfamiliar...

As someone who has probably never picked up a paranormal fantasy novel, when I think of paranormal or ghost fantasy, I think of quiet, dark, and terrifying, but *Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story* by Nghịch Tử was not that. Things that come to mind instead are those of a warmer nature: action, adventure, gore-based horror, humor, and a touch of mystery. This, I was not expecting. And there are a lot of things about *Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story* that are unexpected, especially if one is not fami...

I don’t often write book reviews because usually, someone else has already nailed my perspective. But this one's different. *Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story* by Nghịch Tử is new, and I wanted to be one of the first to chime in. Getting ready for Tết (Lunar New Year), I was craving that nostalgic feeling of listening to my grandpa's ghost stories. I left Vietnam when I was very young and came to the West with my family (no Monkey King adventures here, I promise!). I’m a sucker for Asian stories wh...

As a fellow Vietnamese person, I'm genuinely thrilled to have discovered a book that celebrates our culture. Going into "Eyes: A Vietnamese Ghost Story" by Nghịch Tử, I half-expected the usual clichés and predictable characters often found in genre books and movies. But this book throws a total Deadpool-style twist into the mix. The characters are sharp and clever, the dialogue is genuinely funny, and as the story builds to its climax, the plot gets seriously intricate with all sorts of schemes ...

A thrilling adventure into a land where nothing is as it seems. Two young people with their fates entwined, Vu Thanh, a college student, and Dien Muc, the socially awkward ghost catcher, arrive at Vu Thanh's home village, Maize, only to find out that they have to endure horrors they never knew existed. From ancient rituals to ghosts and magic, instead of celebrating the Lunar New Year, the two youngsters and their unexpected allies are now fighting for their survival. Despite being lore-heavy, ...
