3 starsSo, after watching the show, loving it, and kind of missing it since it ended, I decided to pick up the book, Kathy Reichs' *Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1)*. Sadly, the only thing the series and the book have in common is the name and profession of the female protagonist. Nothing else. Not even the plot. And the plot of *Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1)* could have been adapted for the screen, in my opinion. For me, the TV series was better. But if I had read this when it ca...

SOOOOO disappointed that this doesn't have the same exact characters like the show. Or like the show in general.Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1) is the first book of the Temperance Brennan series. Now, I'm slightly obsessed with the show, Bones. Which is where you meet the character Temperance Brennan... so of course, I had some expectations for the first book. Sadly, it's not set in D.C. and her people aren't in it either. Well... yet.Temperance is an okay kind of character – just like sh...

This was my first Kathy Reichs novel, and I'm officially hooked! As a fan of the *Bones* TV show, I honestly enjoyed this first outing with Temperance Brennan in **Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1)** even more than the TV version. The book is a real page-turner, packed with twists that kept me guessing. My only slight hang-up was all the French names and places – keeping track of everyone in Montreal was a little tricky. But hey, that's just part of the setting. I'm definitely looking forwa...

Forget the TV show when you pick up Kathy Reichs's *Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1)*. Seriously, if you're expecting a *Bones* clone, you're going to be let down. The characters, the setting, the whole story – it's all wildly different. That said, I actually think the book is way better than the show, and I was a fan of the early *Bones* seasons. Temperance Brennan in the book feels like a real person. She's flawed, makes mistakes, and definitely isn't some superhuman genius. She gets rou...

"I was killed by curiosity like a finely tuned cat."That wasn't actually one of the many similes that **Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1)** is drowning in, but it may as well have been. Some real examples:"In my mind’s eye I could see her standing at a pay phone, scanning her surroundings, her eyes never resting, broadcasting fear like Radio Free Europe."Or"She was thin as soup in a homeless shelter"Or"For the third time in as many days I saw daybreak, an event I embrace as eagerly as Joe M...

This book, Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1) by Kathy Reichs, is exactly as good as you'd expect it to be when you buy it for 7 Euros at the airport out of desperation when you have nothing else to read and you need something to occupy your time on a 9-hour flight from Europe to the US. Which is to say, it was awful. For more in-depth book reviews, keep reading!Where to even start? How about with some of the terrible similes that appear every two pages or so (sometimes even more frequently)...

Christ, this book was a real slog to get through. When I checked out Kathy Reichs' books on Amazon, it said "Better than Patricia Cornwell!!" so I thought, DAMN, this MUST be good, especially since I loved so many of Cornwell's earlier novels. It sucked. And not just sucked, but sucked hardcore. I was halfway through Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1) and still couldn't keep track of half the characters. I dreaded every conversation ending because I knew she was about to launch into one of h...

I'll be honest, the first few chapters of Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1) didn't really grab me. You could tell Kathy Reichs was just starting out, and the way she kept throwing in metaphors was a bit much! Plus, all the French phrases—and there were a lot of them, maybe too many—kind of got on my nerves since I don't speak the language.I'm a big fan of the 'Bones' TV show, which is based on these Temperance Brennan books, so I was really excited to dive in. The TV version and the book ve...

Eh, it was okay. I'm a huge fan of the TV series *Bones*, which is loosely based on Kathy Reichs' series, of which *Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, Book 1)* is the first. However, I realized exactly how LOOSELY BASED the series is after reading this book. What I love about the show is the romantic tension and sparkling humor and wit. These books are so much drier and less fun. Even the lead character is less appealing—instead of being a gorgeous unattached doctor, she's an older alcoholic doctor,...

Forensic anthropology books always grab my attention. Thanks to Jennifer for pointing me to this series! *Déjà Dead* is a really good read. I borrowed the abridged audiobook version (4 hours, 30 minutes) from Hoopla. Even in the shorter format, I got invested in the characters, and the mystery unfolded at a rapid pace – which, let's be honest, is a plus. I genuinely enjoyed it, even the bits of French I didn't understand! The Quebec, Canada setting is fascinating. I'm definitely looking forward ...
