The Girl with the Sagittarius Tattoo

I’m genuinely surprised this series doesn’t have a bigger following. What a wild ride from start to finish! For those of us who love sci-fi packed with high-octane action and spy thriller elements, you couldn't ask for more than what Patrick Lee delivers in his Travis Chase series. The catch is that you really have to pay attention. There is so much happening at every turn, and the characters and plot points weave together across the books in ways that are easy to miss if your mind wanders. This ...

Gosh, I honestly don’t think I have the words to explain how I feel about Deep Sky. In one sense, I really liked it, but in another, I didn’t care for it much at all. That being said, I listened to the audiobook almost continuously, just desperately trying to piece together what was going on until I reached the end. And even when I finished, I still didn’t fully understand it. I kept thinking maybe I wasn’t supposed to get it until I read the rest of the series—but wait! This is the final book i...

The U.S. President is assassinated, and the killer leaves behind a cryptic clue: "see Scalar." This message makes its way to Border Town, the underground headquarters of the secret project known as "Tangent." Here, a hidden portal is guarded, occasionally spitting out mysterious artifacts that make the seemingly supernatural possible. The facility's director, Page, and her partner, Travis, launch an investigation. It turns out "Scalar" was a top-secret sub-project buried deep within the already ...

My verdict: The final installment of this trilogy starts off at a bit of a leisurely pace, but then it really picks up speed! It never feels boring, though, because it's packed with information and surprises, punctuated by quick action sequences as the characters fight for survival in a gripping race against time.On one hand, Patrick Lee constantly throws massive obstacles in the protagonists' way, but on the other, I found it a bit mysterious how much certain characters seem to know. Even the c...

A likable sci-fi action series with some interesting ideas that are solidly executed. Patrick Lee is one of the few American authors who doesn't resort to techno-babble nonsense in his work. If you're looking for a great sci-fi book recommendation, Deep Sky is a fantastic choice.

I really should have followed my own advice before picking up this novel: Don't read books in a series too close together.I usually never finish a series because I eventually get tired of the formula, or the author's writing quirks start to grate on me. I’ve read four Patrick Lee novels in less than a month, and Deep Sky, which is the final book in the Travis Chase trilogy, was so over-the-top that I’m honestly relieved to take a break from Mr. Lee.Every entry in the Travis Chase series leans he...

So... we’ve finally reached the end of the trilogy. It’s a solid series. Throughout these books, Patrick Lee has crafted a fascinating and intricate plot, constantly playing with the concepts of time and space. You’ll definitely need an open mind to embrace his take on temporal interaction and the way he explains paradoxes. That said, if you’ve enjoyed the previous installments, I’m confident you’ll like Deep Sky—plus, we finally get a satisfying explanation for something we encountered earlier i...

There's no doubt that Patrick Lee has become one of my new favorite authors. I’m already anxiously waiting for his next release, as the first two installments in this series rank among my all-time favorite sci-fi action novels. They are, quite simply, fantastic reads. That being said, I came away fairly disappointed in Deep Sky. Without spoiling anything for those who haven't caught up on the series yet, the buildup in the first two books was so massive that by the time the big reveal finally a...

Originally Reviewed on The Book SmugglersIn the few years Travis Chase has been free from prison, he’s learned of an anomaly called “The Breach” and the alien technologies—or entities—it inexplicably produces. Together, Paige and Travis have stopped a renegade Tangent agent equipped with...

YES. I. Am. Thrilled. Discombobulated. Agog. Awestruck. Floored. Sky-high. Absolutely losing my mind. Give me a second. Okay: in Deep Sky, the third and final book featuring Travis Chase, Tangent, and a host of tantalizing scientific mysteries, Patrick Lee brings his entire story to a resounding finish with a masterful sense of closure that has left me a little winded and very, very pleased. My mind is blown. I tell you, I am so often disappointed by book endings that I now have low expectations...
