I had a hankering for some pulpy weird west, and *Dead West: Pale Frontier* by J. Patrick Allen definitely scratched that itch.
Young Charlie's family is cursed to fall prey to a water sprite, so he enlists a monster hunter to help him. Along the way, the two bond and uncover more enemies to foil than just a nix. Think supernatural Western adventure!
Charlie's a nice kid, Lutheran, son of German immigrants. Though the tale is written from his adult perspective, I thought he behaved in a prett...

This weird west novella, *Dead West: Pale Frontier*, totally nails it by keeping its focus tight and executing it perfectly. Seriously, J. Patrick Allen delivers. We're thrown into the story of Charlie Kirchner, a first-generation German American hailing from Missouri's Rhineland. The Witcher meets the Wild West
I thought this was a fantastic novel. It reminded me of Geralt the Witcher, but set in the Old West. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! If you're looking for exciting western book reviews, check out *Dead West: Pale Frontier* by J. Patrick Allen. You won't be disappointed.

This book really surprised me. When I first picked it up, I was expecting just another run-of-the-mill weird west story. Instead, once I started reading, I couldn't put "Dead West: Pale Frontier" down. I devoured most of it pretty quickly in the first few days. J. Patrick Allen has crafted a genuinely great story here. The action is relentless, and there's a constant sense of dread as the protagonist is stalked by this unknown creature. And the fact that you don't find out what it *is* until lat...

The characters were captivating, the setting was vibrant and felt meticulously researched, and the action was perfectly executed. I noticed a few typos in the ebook version, but they didn't significantly impact my overall enjoyment of *Dead West: Pale Frontier* by J. Patrick Allen. I'm genuinely looking forward to the next installment in the series. It's a fast-paced read with a definite pulp fiction vibe. If you're looking for exciting western book reviews, this one's for you!

The serene backdrop of post-Civil War Missouri, with its communities of German settlers, provides a stark and wonderful contrast to the creeping horror of the monster that haunts the land. J. Patrick Allen's story of Charlie, a young boy whose father was murdered by the demon, and the world-weary monster hunter he enlists to help him track it down, is both engaging and suspenseful. Their adventures across the frontier, following the trail of this water-borne creature, make for an enjoyable read....
