You might expect a novel about a Japanese-American teenager turned superspy, tasked with sabotaging Japan's atomic program during World War II, to be a breezy young-adult adventure. Instead, Coral Hare: Atomic Agent by Clive Lee is a completely different beast—and it is definitely not for teens. This book is honestly hard to pin down because the tone shifts constantly. At times, it feels like an 80s action movie, complete with black-and-white heroes and villains, disposable henchmen, and scenes o...

Looking for a bit of 007-style historical fiction set in WWII with a young woman as the hero? Then you may want to consider Coral Hare: Atomic Agent by Clive Lee, but I cannot recommend it unequivocally. On the good side, the action here is pretty awesome. It sometimes gets a little easy on the main character, but like with Bond stories and other spy-action novels, you probably won't care. If you're along for the ride, you're already on board with a girl on roller skates snapping every neck and ...

Disclaimer: I received this book for free for review purposes. Let me be clear from the start: I believe Clive Lee deserves high praise for the way he writes Coral Hare: Atomic Agent, perfectly balancing classic spy thriller tropes with genuine historical realism. Yes, our protagonist, Mina, encounters her nemesis at almost every turn in ways that stretch credibility, and she continues to fight on after enduring injuries that would sideline anyone else. Yet, the novel maintains its historical in...

Coral Hare: Atomic Agent by Clive Lee is a genuine page-turner that you won't want to put down. With solid WWII research and sharp writing, it features a kick-ass young female protagonist—a Japanese American from Hawai`i! She gets recruited by the OSS (the precursor to the CIA) and rockets from one high-stakes mission to the next in a desperate race to destroy Japan's little-known atomic bomb project. A fantastic historical thriller—highly recommended!

James Bond and Jason Bourne need to step aside. A new spy is on the loose, and she isn’t holding anything back. Clive Lee’s novel, Coral Hare: Atomic Agent, follows the dangerous missions of WWII Japanese-American spy Mina Sakamoto. Mina and her father were there on the fateful day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Mina barely survived the encounter, but her father was not so lucky. Determined to make his death mean something, Mina devotes herself to the war effort to put a stop to the atrocitie...

Most people who have read anything about World War II know that Germany and the U.S. had active atomic bomb development programs. Not many, however, realize—and I certainly didn’t before picking up this book—that Japan had one too; information that was only declassified relatively recently. First-time novelist Clive Lee uses this historical nugget to craft a riveting espionage thriller, and for once, the term "high-octane" in the book description isn't just marketing hype.
Following a brutal pr...

The author draws you in from the very beginning, making Coral Hare: Atomic Agent by Clive Lee an incredibly hard book to put down. It is truly the ultimate spy novel. Coral Hare: Atomic Agent is an action-packed thrill ride, rooted in historical fact, that transports you deep into the heart of the WWII Japanese nuclear program. You will follow young Mina Sakamoto on an epic adventure from Hawaii to Japan and Korea, where she is recruited by the OSS to track down the bomb. Everywhere she turns, s...

An absolutely enthralling World War 2 spy thriller. Coral Hare: Atomic Agent feels like a female James Bond; it reminds me of Nikita mixed with a little Kill Bill. Two thumbs up for this gripping historical espionage novel by Clive Lee!

An excellent WWII spy thriller. I have been searching for a quality read on this subject, and it is a real treat to find one that delves into the Japanese occupation and the history behind it. Coral Hare: Atomic Agent by Clive Lee is intriguing from start to finish, and I particularly enjoyed the segments set on the Pacific Front. This book is definitely worth a look if you are searching for a gripping historical fiction novel.
