Michael Marshall Smith calls it "brutal and uncompromising," praising its unforgettable characters and emotional depth. C. Marten-Zerf redefines intelligent action thrillers. He was a quiet gamekeeper to some, a war-forged soldier to others. But to Manon, desperate for aid, he was the ultimate weapo...

This was a really fun action thriller; I tore through it in under 48 hours. The plot's pretty classic – a retired soldier of fortune gets pulled back into the game for a good cause. Naturally, his off-the-charts skills let him steamroll the bad guys, even though most of his friends get hurt or killed in his personal war against evil. C. Marten-Zerf really knows how to keep the story moving, and he makes you root for the main character. I'm definitely going to check out more books by C. Marten-Ze...

Desperately needs a proofreader!I haven't even finished Chapter One yet, and I've already counted over 10 grammatical errors. A good proofreader could easily fix these (which, I'll shamelessly admit, I am). I'll review *Choice of Weapon* again by C. Marten-Zerf when I'm finished to see if the story is good enough to excuse the glaring mistakes. Sometimes, I can't even finish a book if the errors are this bad. It makes me want to contact C. Marten-Zerf and beg them to let me fix *Choice of Weapon...

An Enjoyable ReadI found "Choice of Weapon" to be a pretty solid adventure. Some of the themes are definitely challenging, but the story's components – the gunfights, the brutal hand-to-hand combat, the child exploitation – weren't overdone. They were portrayed with a sense of realism and accuracy, which I appreciated. There are places in the world where terrible things happen every single day, and a lot of people in other places just don't realize how awful it can be. A book like C. Marten-Zerf...

RedemptionThis story centers on Garrett, a modern-day mercenary who's had his fill of killing and has retired to Scotland. He gets a call from a nun, an old friend who runs an orphanage in South Africa. She tells him that children are disappearing from various orphanages, and she desperately needs his help. He reluctantly agrees, and once he arrives, he uncovers a group that's kidnapping, raping, and murdering orphans. The authorities don't believe the nun or Garrett, writing it off, saying orph...

One of the most violent, yet most beautifully written books I've ever readIf you're not a fan of violence or strong language, you might be tempted to skip "Choice of Weapon" by C. Marten-Zerf. I usually watch my intake of both, but I'm so glad I didn't miss this one! Definitely a top-tier crime fiction read.As a proud South African, my heart swelled with joy as the author's love for my homeland shone through in vivid descriptions that accurately captured the essence of this amazing land. Marten-...

A 'Small Read'......in the same way an August heatwave might bring 'a gentle breeze.' Calling "Choice of Weapon" an Action/Adventure/Thriller almost undersells it. Is it an allegory trying to break free? A commentary on the last gasp of Patriarchy? A grown-up version of "Shane"?C. Marten-Zerf's writing is straightforward and sharp, filled with astute observations. Little glimpses into the human condition. The event that kicks off the story is the abduction of orphaned children, destined to be so...

This was a pretty intense story. Game Keeper Garret is a quiet, tough protector of the game on the preserve. But then, a name from the past, Sister Mannon, calls for help. Someone is kidnapping her orphans, and the cops don't care! When Garret answers her plea, we discover his past! His mission moves along at a feverish pace. He picks up help along the way, and that's what makes this book blossom and flame. If you like adventure and intrigue, you will like *Choice of Weapon* by C. Marten-Zerf. A...
