This was a seriously interesting read. If you're familiar with the James Bond movies, you might be a tad disappointed because the James Bond in Ian Fleming's *Casino Royale* isn't quite the invincible superhero we see on screen. Instead, we're thrown into a casino setting with a gripping game unfolding between Bond and the villainous Le Chiffre. Then there's the shadowy organization known as Smersh. And what about Vesper, Bond's female colleague on the case? It’s a good story with a romantic tur...

This book, Casino Royale, was so much better than the movie. Although, to be fair, so was my last migraine.

I'm glad I read Ian Fleming's Casino Royale, I think, but I probably won't bother with the rest of the series. James Bond, much like Daniel 'Trout Pout' Craig, is an unrelenting pain in the backside... For more honest book reviews, keep following!

"Surround yourself with human beings, my dear James. They are easier to fight for than principles." He laughed. "But don't let me down and become human yourself. We would lose such a wonderful machine."James Bond, Secret Agent for M16, 007 with a license to kill. This was the 1st entry in Ian Fleming's James Bond series and introduces the world's most famous fictional spy in great fashion.Bond is in France gambling his nights away at the Royale Casino. It all sounds enjoyable however this is par...

The beginning of the James Bond stories. And what an odd beginning. Yes, we are introduced to Bond and provided some backstory. We know that his 00 designation means he's killed before and is licensed to kill again in service to Queen and country. We learn he's a spy and a gambler, a heavy smoker who likes his vodka martini (shaken, not stirred). But this feels almost more like a romance. Ian Fleming describes a decidedly more vulnerable and human Bond than the one portrayed in the films. Fle...

Bond, James Bond. For years I've enjoyed watching the action movies starring England's favorite 007 spy, but until now, I hadn't read any of Ian Fleming's classic books that explain Bond's origins. In *Casino Royale*, a tale of stealth, lust, and treachery, we see where Bond's 007 career begins. It's the years following World War II, and the Cold War has emerged from the ashes of Europe. The Russian intelligence agency SMERSH, backed by Arabian oil money, has become a threat to take over the We...

(A-) 80% | Very Good
Notes: James Bond, a jaded and professional killer, takes a gamble on humanity and love, all while we're schooled in the intricacies of baccarat in Ian Fleming's Casino Royale. If you're looking for thrilling book reviews, this is a must-read!

I think I read *From Russia With Love* first (and, *From Russia With Love* will always be my favorite Bond book and movie), but I had to go back to the beginning and read the Ian Fleming Bond books straight through. I had the chance a few years ago when the entire Fleming collection in paperback was available for $20 at Sam's Club! Still one of the best book deals I've ever found! *Casino Royale* didn't blow me away – it's a bit dry and slow. I wasn't going to let that stop me from reading the ...

Spoilers ahead. This review isn't just about *Casino Royale*; it's about the James Bond books as a whole. I'd argue these books are the most misunderstood of all prominent books because the subtext that makes them so appealing is buried incredibly deep, so deep that most readers completely miss it.The best way to understand the James Bond books is to understand the heroines. Often, they're portrayed as glamorous women Bond needs to save. That's completely wrong. The key is that these women *alway...

To: MFrom : Jane MoneypennySubject: An assessment of Agent 007's conduct during operation “Casino Royale”Dear Sir,I am aware of concerns raised by certain members of the Service regarding Agent 007’s performance during the abovementioned operation. Therefore, I would like to offer my personal assessment, based on the debriefing reports and my own long familiarity with the subject. It is true that Agent 007 had somewhat compromised the operation by letting himself getting caught by the Target, oth...

Man... he's stone cold.Is James Bond a bit of a sexist? Yep.I remembered being aware that he wasn't exactly woke when it came to women after I first read this book, and 13 years haven't improved things. He's a total ass, so don't hand your son this book with a knowing wink that says, \"Be like this guy.\"What I had forgotten was that the first half of this (rather short) book, *Casino Royale* by Ian Fleming, was mostly just a card game. No cool spy stuff, no outrageous sexytimes, just a mind-num...
