Black Tide (Blood Angels, Book 4) by James Swallow is a fantastic read. It features a gripping revenge plot—the relentless hunt for Fabius Bile feels like a sci-fi take on Moby Dick, with the Blood Angels pursuing their nemesis with terrifying intensity. There’s even a clever nod to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea thrown into the mix. This book is packed with high-octane action and some incredibly tense moments for one of the lead characters, complete with the visceral, gory detail you’d expect fro...

I’ve been a Warhammer 40k fan since the 1st edition and have read almost all the fiction released over the years, so I can say with complete certainty that Black Tide (Blood Angels, Book 4) is one of the worst 40k books I have ever had the misfortune to read. It is filled with lazy writing and tired, well-worn tropes. The portrayal of Fabius Bile as such a cartoonish villain is bordering on the ridiculous. I almost gave up on this James Swallow novel halfway through because it was so bad, but I ...

Black Tide (Blood Angels, Book 4) is easily my favorite entry in the series. I absolutely loved the interaction between the characters and members of other Space Marine chapters. If you are looking for a gripping science fiction book review, this James Swallow novel is a must-read.

I started Black Tide (Blood Angels, Book 4) with high hopes, both because of the positive reviews and my interest in the hunt for Fabius Bile. Unfortunately, it fell far short of my expectations. In many scenes, James Swallow makes the Space Marines act more like common grunts or mere mortals; Sergeants talk to them as if they were inexperienced Neophytes, and the author disregards established lore whenever it is convenient for him to force a plot point. For example, he doesn't seem to consider ...

Black Tide (Blood Angels, Book 4) by James Swallow felt a bit too long and definitely dragged in the middle, but honestly? I couldn't put it down. There’s just something about Space Marines battling an insidious enemy inside a terrifying lab fortress that hits the spot. If you’re looking for a gripping sci-fi book review, this story delivers the kind of intense, atmospheric action I absolutely love.

Tracking the Chaos traitor down to his secret base on Dynikas V, a world beset by alien Tyranids, the Blood Angels find horrors more terrible than even they can imagine. And with a sample of a Primarch's blood in his possessi...

To be honest, it took me a little longer than usual to get into Black Tide (Blood Angels, Book 4), but I was also pretty busy and couldn't sit down to read as much as I normally would have. That said, the book just kept getting better and better with every page, and my obsession with the Flesh Tearers and the 'Mad Scientist' of the 40K universe was ALMOST satisfied. My favorite part of this novel—besides how terrifyingly awesome said mad scientist is—is that James Swallow wrote some truly unique m...

At the very end of Red Fury, Rafen is told that Bile has stolen some of the Primarch’s blood. He is ordered to track him down, punish this blasphemy, and retrieve the sacred relic. Black Tide (Blood Angels, Book 4) begins with his squad on a Tau colony, only to discover that Bile is long gone and knew they would follow him. Just like that, their last lead has gone cold.Rafen is, to put it mildly, not pleased. However, Seth sends word to the Blood Angels that the Flesh-Tearers have a new lead and ...

This book picks up right where Red Fury leaves off. In Black Tide (Blood Angels, Book 4) by James Swallow, Rafen goes on a desperate hunt for the traitor Fabius Bile, accompanied by a band of battle-brothers and a few Flesh Tearers. Their pursuit finally leads them to the planet Dynikas V.
Rafen ends up captured by Bile himself and is thrown into the depths of the traitor’s base. There, Bile is busy conducting twisted experiments, attempting to forge a new Emperor using blood samples stolen fro...
