About fifteen or sixteen years back, I was reading these books aloud to my boys. My middle son was utterly captivated by the *Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony* books. He saw himself as a semi-evil, kid-genius in the making, and Artemis was his role model. While he's (mostly) given up on the evil part, he's definitely pursued the genius(?) part, and re-reading these now, I feel incredibly nostalgic for those days. It's a great series for young readers, full of adventure! In *Artemis Fowl: The Lost Co...

"I know you. You're that female elf." "I don't like the surface. It's too close to the sun and I have sensitive skin." With Opal Koboi temporarily out of the picture, Eoin Colfer really shakes things up in this fifth book, exploring completely new territory. It's the first time Colfer's taken such a big leap in storyline, introducing a whole bunch of new characters and a totally fresh setting. Honestly, it works way better than I expected! The characters, plot, and pacing are as great as e...

Second time through, and I'm seriously loving the crap out of this series. Maybe it's Butler's sass, or Holly and Artemis working so well together. Or maybe it's Artemis becoming more human and acting like a teenager a bit? Who knows. Just know that I'm enjoying the whole entire thing.Artemis is going through something he can't control: Puberty. It's honestly hilarious to watch him in this book because he's all about being in control. So since he's getting older and his body is changing, he real...

Demons!!!! Not content with superbly original re-imaginings of fairy folk like dwarves, goblins, trolls, pixies, elves, and centaurs, Eoin Colfer sets his sights on demons in *Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony*. Artemis, with his ever-present bodyguard Butler always within a meter, is investigating demons, and as usual, this leads to potentially world-threatening consequences that require Artemis, Butler, Holly, and Mulch to team up once more. Artemis has just hit puberty, so his thoughts sometimes...

Just finished reading ARTEMIS FOWL: THE LOST COLONY – Book 5 in the Artemis Fowl series, and I read the whole thing on my Kindle. Told from a third-person perspective across 16 chapters, the story is all about Artemis Fowl's time-traveling adventure. He's hunting for a warlock demon who might be able to stop a war between demons and humans. Sadly, I didn't love it. First off, there are tons of new characters thrown in. While reading, it felt like all these new characters were crammed into one bo...

No matter what dimension you're in, there's always some big-headed dude trying to take over the world.I wasn't expecting this. I was really trying to love this book. But I just couldn't. I just couldn't! :(☆3.5 Stars☆For God's sake, Eoin! Change the formula already. After reading the last four books in the series, I can practically predict how you'll start each one. So, I was pretty bored at the beginning, except for one thing: there was action, but only a little excitement. Or maybe even that e...

"Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony" is the fifth book in the series, and I personally think that everyone who loves Harry Potter should read these books. Better written and with more intelligent contemplation of elements like magic and technology, this is a series that readers of all ages can enjoy. By book five, we’ve been introduced to a wide and fun cast of characters, and unfortunately had one of our good friends die. There is no over-arching plot between books, though there are certainly contin...

(A-) 83% | Very GoodNotes: Where fading spells and hormone hell are looming cataclysms, and omnipresent adolescence steers the symbolism.*Check out progress updates for detailed commentary: Progress updates:02/27/2024 - Preamble(1) So, I guess this is where Disney stopped reissuing the audiobooks with new promotional cover art. Or perhaps they thought half the books were enough to advertise their ill-fated Disney+ film.- I've mentioned it before, but the American editions have never had consiste...
