A very entertaining adventure/mystery about scientific experimentation on animals and its consequences. I really liked the characters! I'm a big fan of James Rollins, especially his Sigma Force series. And *Altar of Eden* felt like classic Rollins. The characters are interesting without overshadowing the plot. There’s a great balance between the story and the characters within it. I could totally see Sigma Force wanting to recruit Jack and Lorna. Maybe they will someday. So, we have Jack, a bord...

This book was utter garbage, and I ate up every single moment. James Rollins' 'Altar of Eden' is the kind of ridiculous, over-the-top thriller that you secretly crave. If you're looking for a smart, literary novel, steer clear. But if you want pure, unadulterated escapism? Look no further. Seriously, this book is so bad it's good. Perfect for a guilty pleasure read!

I've heard so many great things about James Rollins and his books have been recommended to me countless times, but it took me a while to finally pick one up. After reading Altar of Eden, I'll definitely be tearing through a bunch more of his work.In Altar of Eden, we get a thriller with a sci-fi twist, which is totally my thing. It wasn't flawless – I figured out some plot points pretty early on, and some parts were a little unbelievable – but the non-stop action kept me hooked, desperate to see...

I was thrilled when James Rollins' new book, Altar of Eden, came out, and I wasn't disappointed that it wasn't part of his previous series. He started his career with standalone stories, and with Altar of Eden, he's back to that format. As a veterinarian, it's no surprise he wrote a story about animals. What I always loved about his earlier books was the inclusion of bizarre creatures (or as I like to call them, "creepy crawlies") into the plot. In Altar of Eden, the creepy crawlies are genetica...

Another fantastic book by James Rollins! I love how his stories always deliver adventure with a touch of romance. And the facts! Like how the human brain constantly generates enough electricity to power a flashlight. Incredible!Lorna and Jack are such compelling characters, but I also enjoyed the supporting cast. Rollins really knows how to write engaging characters. When you're reading Altar of Eden, you're completely absorbed. You feel what the characters feel, you learn new things, and it’s li...

For an airport novel, *Altar of Eden* was surprisingly a snooze-fest… the kind that actually puts you to sleep. Which is strange to say about a book with some of the most over-the-top writing I’ve ever encountered, the kind that screams, shoots, and detonates on every single page. But honestly? I found it pretty boring. I liked the basic idea, and there was a decent helping of techno-jargon thrown in. But James Rollins's flat, predictable characters and their totally cliché problems just didn't ...

WHY are people rating "Altar of Eden" so highly??? The characters were cardboard cutouts, the plot was obviously manipulated, the scenarios were so unlikely...the story was more like a series of explosions and gunfights loosely linked together until it finally expired. Having survived to the end, I know a lot more about weaponry and am reassured that one-dimensional good guys can only get wounded no matter how many rounds are fired per minute, while no-dimensional bad guys inevitably get someth...

My first encounter with James Rollins' work happened around 2006. I was managing an overstock bookstore at the time—Book Gallery—and a customer came in asking if we had any of Rollins' books. We had two—*Amazonia* and *Ice Hunt*—that he'd already read, so I personally picked them up and brought them home to add to my never-ending and ephemerally conceptualized to-read list. Why? Because he had used phrases like "like Michael Crichton but way more exciting" and "seriously the best novels!" Phrase...

Lorna is innocently driving to work in Louisiana one morning after a strong storm, thinking about her day ahead. But when she arrives, she's told she has to inspect a shipwrecked boat. What?! She's a vet, what do they need her for? Once she gets there, she not only has to deal with Jack, a dark and sexy Border Patrol agent from her deep and painful past, but also with some animals on the ship. And not just any animals, mind you—special animals, the kind that creep into your nightmares and make y...

I really loved this book! It’s a super quick read. I picked up Altar of Eden just to browse, and I ended up devouring seven chapters before I could put it down. I highly recommend all of James Rollins' books, but Altar of Eden is definitely my favorite. If you're looking for a great thriller, this is it!
