Another thrilling chapter in the escapades of Agatha Heterodyne, the Girl Genius, unfolds in Agatha Heterodyne and the Circus of Dreams. After escaping from a Wulfenbach Airship, Agatha and Krosp (the talking cat!) crash-land in the Wastelands. With Gilgamesh Wulfenbach and Captain Dupree hot on their heels, Agatha finds herself joining a traveling circus and staging her own demise to avoid capture. From the amusing author blurbs (which remind me of a much less gloomy Lemony Snicket) to the wit...

After being completely captivated by the unique storytelling of the first three books, the start of "Agatha Heterodyne and the Circus of Dreams" was a real letdown. It leaned heavily on tired tropes, like, "Oh no, we have to train you to fight now!" and "Wow, you're effortlessly amazing at everything!" It felt disappointingly predictable. Thankfully, the end of the book started to recapture some of the mystery that I loved. I'm hoping the next volume or two will be better, or I might just give u...

This is the fourth volume in the Girl Genius series, *Agatha Heterodyne and the Circus of Dreams* by Phil Foglio. I read the first three books as an omnibus and absolutely fell in love with this series. It’s a wonderful blend of steampunk, fantasy, and humor. Agatha’s airship crashes in the Wastelands during her escape from Wulfenbach castle. Her only companion is the King of Cats, Krosp. They are relieved when they stumble upon a traveling circus. However, the circus members have secrets of th...

So the Heterodynes were bad news until "the boys" showed up, and the Baron was friends with her dad? The story's really layering itself as it goes on. The artwork continues to be absolutely gorgeous; the circus panels especially just thrilled my inner child. And Agatha continues to be a fantastic hero – not even remotely cutesy, just smart, savvy, brave, and all-around cool. I'm really hooked on this series; so glad it landed on my radar. "Agatha Heterodyne and the Circus of Dreams" by Phil Fogl...

Since I promised myself I'd review every book I read, I figured I'd write one for this volume, now that I've got a pretty good handle on what this series is all about. This is actually the first comic book I've ever read, and it's also my first foray into steampunk, so the whole thing was brand new to me. At first, the drawings seemed a bit childish and the situations overly humorous, and I was worried that's all the books would be. But I needn't have worried! While it does lean a little towards...
