History is unfolding all around you—and sometimes, it crashes right into you. Max expected a safe, sensible career, maybe defusing bombs or volunteering for a one-way trip to Mars. Instead, she became a historian. It started promisingly enough: meeting Isaac Newton in 17th-century Cambridge and witn...

These books are seriously just getting better and better—the blend of humor, history, and absolutely terrifying historical events still keeps me glued to each page. I flew through "A Second Chance (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #3)" in no time! There's human tragedy here on a massive scale, but also as intimate as the connection between two people. The way Jodi Taylor plays these elements off each other demonstrates how much her writing is evolving with the series. She's also brought history to ...

DiiiiieeeesssssssDear Jodi Taylor,There are kinder ways to murder your readers than subjecting them to pure sensory overload and emotional devastation. Seriously!BEWARE!Anyone diving into The Chronicles of St. Mary's will be happily lost in a brilliant, witty world... only to be chewed up, swallowed whole, and spat back out, utterly wrecked and unable to cope with normal life.A Second Chance (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #3) was brutally brilliant. A total emotional rollercoaster.I'm utterly ex...

This felt like two separate books to me. The first half is fantastic, full of wild, madcap adventures, including a trip to Troy that's as amazing as it is tragic. Then the second half dives into relationship angst that I just didn't connect with, a death, a near-death experience, and... a very interesting ending.\n\nThe first half easily earns 4.5 stars. I was completely absorbed. Max takes an elderly professor back in time to see Isaac Newton, and, as usual, everything goes hilariously wrong, l...

Outstanding!! Oh my! Jodi Taylor has outdone herself... *A Second Chance (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #3)* wrung me out and messed with my head... I LOVED it! ALL THE STARS! All the feels! All the hilarity! All the weeping!Carefully crafted and plotted, rich in historical detail. One of my favorite series, I've just decided. Can't wait to read the next installment. Definitely going to need some rationing because I don't want to run out of her books. This series is SO recommended. But start with...

Good heavens, this series is absolutely destroying me. I mean, yeah, there are tons of genuinely hilarious things happening, one right after the other, and I'm loving every minute. Plus, the time-travel aspect almost takes a backseat to the impressive historical detail. But here's the real gut punch: the emotional impact. It's always rough when characters you barely know bite the dust, but this series keeps throwing characters we're actually starting to care about under the bus. And then... I mea...

Torn, torn, and torn.Every time I read this series, I'm awfully torn. On one hand, I love the writing, the dialogue, and the scenarios in which *A Second Chance (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #3)* takes place. However, I'm also definitely annoyed with the emotional development and character depth. As I said, torn:World: Wonderfully dense and fun. The history is researched in detail, the world is described vividly and feels alive, and the world of St. Mary's is a hoot. This is the best part of Jo...

Buddy read at BB&B.This series is so strange for me. I enjoy most of it and I'm intrigued enough to keep reading, but then the relationship drama makes me want to rip my hair out. More on that later though.*The Iliad* was one of my favorite required readings back in school. I've always loved Greek Mythology, and the story of the Trojan War fascinated me, even though my side ended up losing. The depiction of the war in "A Second Chance" by Jodi Taylor is probably a lot closer to what a war in...

*** 4 stars ***A buddy read with the MacHalos, because we love a bit of time travel... Liked it even more the second time around! Seriously addictive!!! 👍😃Jodi Taylor has a formula: first, she bamboozles you with humor. Then, she hooks you with the characters' relationships. Next, she intrigues you with time travel for historical research—in this case, the Fall of Troy and the Battle of Agincourt, plus a rather enthusiastic cheese rolling festival in the 19th century. And finally, she destroys...

It's almost 1 AM, and I've been a sobbing mess for hours. I'm seriously contemplating finding Jodi Taylor's address, driving there, and staging a very stern talking-to... with a dustpan. (Okay, maybe more than talking.)A full review is coming (assuming prison has Wi-Fi).-----------------------------------------------Decided to treat myself and sleep in a bit, so I didn't get up until 9:20 this morning. To soothe my still-raw nerves, I tried reading the (comparatively) mind-numbing Mr. Bulfinch, ...

Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThe Publisher Says: St Mary’s is back, and nothing is going right for Max. Once again, it’s just one damned thing after another. The action jumps from an encounter with a mirror-stealing Isaac Newton to the bloody battlefield at Agincourt. Discover how a simple fact-finding assignment to witness the ancient and murderous cheese-rolling fertility ceremony in Gloucester can result in CBC – concussion by cheese. The long-awaited jump to Bronze Age Troy ends in personal catas...
