Elizabeth Lim grew up on a hearty staple of fairy tales, myths, and songs. Her passion for storytelling began around age 10, when she started writing fanfics for Sailor Moon, Sweet Valley, and Star Wars, and posted them online to discover, "Wow, people actually read my stuff. And that's kinda cool!" But after one of he...

—★★★✯☆ · 3.5 starsOkay, I enjoyed this way more than the actual Beauty and the Beast. This was so darn good, which I totally wasn't expecting. It really reminds me of those classic fairytale myths, the kind that took me right back to when I first started reading 🤌More thoughts on this later, because wow, that was one hell of a rollercoaster.Time to become obsessed with Elizabeth Lim's books 😈📌 “Gray is the color of truth. The same in art as it is in life, nothing is ever as black and white as...

I will always devour a *Beauty and the Beast* retelling. Always. It's my absolute favorite kind of story because it hits all the right notes for me:- A fiercely independent female lead who puts her family first.- That delicious tension between enemies that simmers and slowly turns into something deeper.- The heartbreaking weight of a curse and the ultimate sacrifice needed to break it.While I wouldn't have minded a touch more romance, the stunning Asian mythology, the vividly realized dragon rea...

5/5 stars. I don't care, I'm changing my rating. I'm still upset that it's over. What am I supposed to do with my life now that I've finished A Forgery of Fate? Maybe write the review eventually...______________________________________________________Okay, listen up. The story, the worldbuilding, the *yearning*. And the characters! Elizabeth Lim's *A Forgery of Fate* had me absolutely hooked from page one, which honestly rarely happens. Usually, I need a few chapters to warm up to a book, but no...

“My heart, my home—they are yours. They always have been.”This book was fantastic! What a magical, captivating, and engaging young adult fantasy about family, love, sacrifice, and power. A Forgery of Fate follows Truyan, who became a thief and art forger after her father went missing at sea, all to support her sisters and mother. But Tru can't pay off her mother's gambling debt, so she makes a deal with a Dragon lord, Elang, and becomes his wife. Elang gives her mother and sisters a safe place t...

In theory, the premise of *A Forgery of Fate* sounds incredibly appealing to me. Why wouldn't it? It's got that Asian-inspired flavor, an underwater palace, a brooding, cursed dragon, and painting magic (which is totally my thing). Sounds like a winner, right? But just one peek at the Kindle sample, and the whole house of cards collapses.I wasn't a fan of Elizabeth Lim's "Six Crimson Cranes," and sadly, her writing here feels just as juvenile. It's slow-paced, and the character development is so ...

I like most meals with a lot of spices and chilli. So when *A Forgery of Fate* ambushed my senses with a bowl of hand-rolled noodles in broth simmering in cinnamon, ginger and chilli oil, plus a fantasy romance, fake marriage, a phoenix demon and talking turtles, I knew I’d found a comfort read. This book legitimately gave me butterflies and food cravings. Now, if you read the blurb, you already know this is a *Beauty and the Beast*-inspired story imbued with Chinese culture that unfolds under th...

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the ARC!🌟🌟🌟🌟/5Ghibli fans, Elizabeth Lim is back with a new adventurous and whimsical fairytale that's sure to delight! While it's not my absolute favorite of her books, "A Forgery of Fate" is a great read nonetheless! The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Lim's works is the word 'vibrant.' She's a master of descriptions, and it definitely shows here. Her words make sights, sounds, and smells come alive. The overall atmosphere p...

A Forgery of Fate in a nutshell:Imagine if Belle was an art forger who could paint the future, and the Beast was a half-dragon cursed to live without his heart... BUT the Beast wants Belle not to get his heart back, but to help him take down his evil grandfather who cursed him. Oh, and it all takes place in the most magical underwater world! This was such a magical read, and the Beauty and the Beast inspiration was present in all the right places without feeling forced or overdone. What I loved…- ...
