When reviewing a book I generally avoid talking about the mechanics of the book itself - the layout, the format, the editing, etc. - since most if that is rarely the author's fault. However, there are books where the formatting is such an impediment to enjoying the story, that I feel the need to call it out. Such is the case with Pandora's Temple, which looked like a direct conversion of a PDF print layout, complete with lines that arbitrary break in the middle of the page, and hyphenated words ...

I guess you could call this a "Beach Read". I picked it up (free) for my kindle to have something mindless to read while traveling. It certainly held my interest.

I use love Blaine when I was teenagers. Great 80 style action. Unfortunately the plot is stupid and reads like should stay in the 80

Good right up til the end. The ending didn't really explain why the villain wanted Pandora's box in the first place. The Aum Shinrikyo guys' motive I got (nice touch using a real life terrorist outfit, and one who I remembered from my youth), but Sebastian Roy's I did not. Too much irony at the end. Irony is the lowest payoff from the setups. On the other hand, Jon Land did what he does best: visual, cinematic characters with distinctive personalities, ridiculous action that still stays interesti...

Fun, pulpy adventure. Fast moving. Very cinematic. Some dialogue is razor sharp (the stranger, and Captain Seven for example) exactly like real speech, but other dialogue is overwritten. An actual person would say the same thing better in fewer words. Some of the description and exposition is overwritten, also. There is a great prologue which is very cool and sets the stage extremely well. It drew me right in. Things seemed to drag a bit in the chapters about villain Sebastian Roy. All in all, a...

Pandora’s TempleJon LandCaptain John J. Hightower picked up a stranger on Crete Island. This mysterious and unidentified man remained by the research ship’s deck rail watching the turbulent sea and hoping to see what he was looking for. The ship is the Aurora which has been mapping” the seafloor in detailed grids.” Hoping to find something of unknown size, composition and origin by this man. Not really telling him what he was searching for the man gave him some clues but none specific enough to ...

I really liked this book alot once I got further into it and the only thing I was sad about was that our heroes are in their 60's and 70's and I was like, what? I guess the younger generation just don't know how to get it done in this book! There are alot of twists and turns and some really suprising reveals and upsets that I did not see coming. I usually am pretty good at spotting who the "real" enemy or killer is in books, but this one had me stumped. I wasn't too crazy about how it ended with...

My review:It was one weird book!Pandora's Temple was the first book written by Jon Land which I have read, so I was not familiar with his writing before Pandora's Temple. It was action-packed, fast-paced and easy to read. what was confusing for me, was the mixture of genres used and I was in trouble with deciding if I liked that or not. I usually enjoy when genres are combined, but Pandora's Temple could be categorized everything between Thriller and Mystery to Science Fiction. One thing is sure...

Pandora's Temple is my first experience with one of Jon Land's books and I am impressed! This is a classic tale of high stakes adventure where the hero is literally fighting for the fate of the world. The book is the latest is a series that features Blaine McCracken, now approaching the age of 60. But the man hadn't lost a step. I give Land credit for writing a book that features a protagonist that some might consider past his prime. As part of the plot, McCracken wonders himself if he might hav...
