This is strictly a reference book—definitely not a page-turner you'd pick up for pleasure. As a reference, I can't really vouch for its accuracy since I haven't actually visited any of the locations it mentions. Keep in mind that when it refers to the "Eastern U.S.," it's being pretty selective, only covering sections of eight states along the Atlantic coast. And it doesn't even include all of *those* states – what about Virginia? Is Virginia devoid of wildlife, then?Clocking in at a mere 120 pa...

I didn't read *Wildlife Adventures: An Explorer's Guide* straight through, and I don't think it's really meant to be read that way. My family is using J.Z. Hunt's book to help us decide on our next vacation. We look at the first page of each section to see which animals are frequently spotted at each location before reading on. Of course, my daughter wants to go to location 11 to see the mustangs, and my son wants to visit any of the locations that have alligators. So I guess the hard part now i...

Okay, I'm totally biased here – I wrote "Wildlife Adventures: An Explorer's Guide". But seriously, I *loved* writing it! I learned so much about animals while researching, it was insane. The fact that whales never fully fall asleep because they have to consciously remember to breathe? Mind-blowing! Imagine having to actively think about every. single. breath. you take! As fascinating as the research was, nothing beats actually visiting these incredible locations and sharing those wildlife experi...
