3.5 stars, rounded up! Attention all slow-burn romance lovers: this book is definitely for you! The two main characters don't even meet until 64% of the way through! All kidding aside, this isn't really a typical MM romance. It’s more of a thriller with a gay (or bi?) main character. Since this is the first book in a trilogy, I'm guessing the proper romance elements will be explored more in the next installment. And I really appreciated this: Robert Reeves managed to write a thriller as grip...

It's tough to say whether *The Trees Beyond the Grass* is a truly *good* book or not. A reasonably intelligent reader will probably figure out who did it and why pretty early on. The plot unfolds at a snail's pace, but I actually liked that in this instance. The descriptions of Charleston, the city's history—that was all fantastic, even if some readers might gripe about the level of detail. But ultimately, I enjoyed Robert Reeves' *The Trees Beyond the Grass*. If you like slow-burn mysteries wit...

I received a complimentary copy of "The Trees Beyond the Grass" in exchange for an honest review, which I promised to write in my own time. Robert Reeves assured me there was no rush, but once I started reading, *I* was the one racing to finish. Every task that pulled me away from "The Trees Beyond the Grass" felt like an unwelcome interruption. Cole Muzon, based in Denver, returns to his hometown of Charleston to visit his adoptive parents, grandmother, sister, and her son, to whom he's very c...

I finished reading *The Trees Beyond the Grass* because I agreed to do so and give it a review. The writing toward the beginning was hard for me to get through with its constant, dense descriptions. I'm not quite sure how to classify it, but in a nutshell, it seemed forced... *"His eyes still pinched closed, he shook off the residual fear like a wet dog and then instinctually slid his arm across the bed where only the cool underside of a pillow was found...Slowly, he opened his eyes, still damp ...

I absolutely could NOT put this book down! "The Trees Beyond the Grass" completely captivated me and held my attention from beginning to end. Not only is Robert Reeves' writing fascinating and bone-chilling, but it also provides such a rich sense of the history of the real locations featured in the novel. I'm actually planning a trip for later this fall and will definitely be visiting some of the places mentioned in "The Trees Beyond the Grass." My rating of the book: FANTASTIC. And I was even ...

I decided to read this mystery/thriller as soon as I received it because I plan to visit Charleston in less than a month, and the chance to read a novel set in the town was too good to pass up. And I’m glad I did, because Charleston is as much a protagonist as Cole Mouzon. Robert Reeves' *The Trees Beyond the Grass* is a thriller with a subtheme of romance, and, at least in this novel, Cole's love interest, Cash Calhoun, appears well into the plot, even if he's been connected to Cole since the d...

Robert Reeves's *The Trees Beyond the Grass* is deeply rooted in the South, with backdrops ranging from Denver to Atlanta to South Carolina. Mystery, intrigue, and suspense grab you from the start and hold your attention throughout as you travel with Cole from his home in Denver to where he grew up in Charleston. The bits and pieces of scenery and history in *The Trees Beyond the Grass* all but become a secondary character; they are so detailed and precise. This makes it a compelling read for fa...

What can I say? I'm a sucker for a good mystery. I always try to figure out whodunit before the big reveal. But honestly, Robert Reeves' *The Trees Beyond the Grass* is so much more than just a whodunit. This book delves into family dynamics, self-preservation (in every sense of the word), and the unique atmosphere of the South. Charleston practically becomes a character in the story, and I loved soaking up all the historical details. It reminded me a lot of *Midnight in the Garden of Good and E...

Cole Mouzon is an accomplished lawyer living and practicing in Denver. On the surface, he appears content with his life, when in reality, that's far from the truth. Burdened with loss and a fear of love are just some of his issues. Cole's deepest fear of all is the constant, unexplainable nightmare that runs on a loop night after night, haunting his dreams. Deciding to take a much-needed vacation, he heads back to his hometown of Charleston to escape the rut of his everyday life. Connecting wi...

Meet Cole Mouzon This is the first installment in the Cole Mouzon thriller series. The Trees Beyond the Grass grabbed my attention right from the beginning with the prologue. The central plot is about our lead character Cole Mouzon, a successful lawyer from Denver. While visiting his hometown of Charleston, Mouzon is contacted by FBI Agent Leas, who is in a race against time to catch a serial killer targeting Cole.Highly emotive and gritty, Robert Reeves teases you with hints about the seri...
