The JFK Conspiracy: The Plot to Kill Kennedy―and Why it Failed by Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch is a nonfiction narrative history that blends political history with a true-crime setup: the failed 1960 assassination attempt on President-elect John F. Kennedy by Richard Pavlick. On paper, it sounds like a deep dive into a little-known plot and the man behind it. In reality, I was somewhat disappointed, because the book ended up feeling more like a broad history lesson on JFK and Jackie than an in-d...

Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch's *The JFK Conspiracy: The Plot to Kill Kennedy* is a non-fiction book that grabs you like a thriller. I think I'd vaguely heard about this before, but couldn't tell you when or where. It’s amazing how people can justify the most extreme actions, and then completely flip when it's their turn. *The JFK Conspiracy: The Plot to Kill Kennedy* doesn’t exactly show JFK in the best light; he comes across as impulsive, reckless, and a total womanizer. Jackie, though—she's po...

I'm genuinely shocked at how well-written this was. It's amazing.
I felt like I absorbed so much information, but it never felt like a lecture or a school lesson.
Honestly, I'm not sure what else I can say to praise it.

(4/5)⭐️🛟 If you're looking for compelling true crime books, especially anything related to The JFK Conspiracy: The Plot to Kill Kennedy by Brad Meltzer, I highly recommend checking this one out.

I'm a fan of Brad Meltzer. I'm not familiar with John Mensch, but my liking Meltzer was enough for me to pick up "The JFK Conspiracy: The Plot to Kill Kennedy". I went in expecting a deep dive into the assassination we all know, but it turns out, it's about a completely different assassination attempt that I'd never even heard of. Meltzer and Mensch argue it was a pivotal moment because it happened before JFK was even inaugurated. Look, JFK was a terrible husband, and his time in office was too...

The title is a bit misleading: "conspiracy" suggests more than just one angry postal worker in Florida who wanted to kill JFK shortly after the 1960 election. It feels anticlimactic, especially considering the Dallas tragedy three years later. With icons who die young and violently, it's hard to separate the myth from the human being. One of the most interesting parts reveals how Jackie Kennedy, shortly after the assassination, actually helped perpetuate the mythical Camelot image. Surprisingly,...

Not Enough Substance

There's way too much fluff here, padding out details that really only have enough depth for a lengthy magazine piece. Don’t waste your money buying "The JFK Conspiracy: The Plot to Kill Kennedy" by Brad Meltzer; borrow it from the library. If you're looking for insightful Kennedy assassination theories, this isn't it.

For the first 50 chapters of Brad Meltzer's *The JFK Conspiracy: The Plot to Kill Kennedy*, I'd call it history-lite. It felt like reading an encyclopedia. Then came the chapters detailing Richard Pavlick’s incredibly close encounter with JFK in Palm Beach, and I was ready to give it 5 stars. It amazes me how a man with 10 sticks of dynamite gets that close to the President on a Sunday morning on his way to church but *doesn't* become front-page news. Richard Pavlick himself said the only thing ...

First and foremost, a huge thank you to NetGalley, Brad Meltzer, Josh Mensch, and Macmillan Audio for providing me with a copy of this book. This allowed me to provide you with an unbiased review.Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch are back, delivering a fantastic piece of non-fiction about a real, yet little-known, event surrounding the first assassination attempt on John F. Kennedy, just days before his inauguration. The authors portray the events skillfully, creating page-turning excitement as they ...

Historians give us the past so we can learn from our mistakes and avoid repeating them. Brad Meltzer's *The JFK Conspiracy: The Plot to Kill Kennedy* is absolutely absorbing, offering a profound and detailed look at both the beauty and darkness in the lives of Jacqueline and John F. Kennedy. These were two people who wanted to unite Americans through their love for the country. We all know what happened. For years, the defining question was: “Where were you when you heard that President Kennedy ...
