Strangers in the Storm: Love and Survival on Mount Rainier is a memoir recounting the authors' experiences getting lost on a 2010 Mt. Rainier climb and the unexpected night they had to spend on the mountain. Usually, I'm partial to mountaineering stories, but Strangers in the Storm: Love and Survival on Mount Rainier is easily the worst book I've read this year. I found the authors absolutely insufferable, and their approach toward climbing Mt. Rainier was incredibly naive. One of the authors h...

Jared Rund and Diane McKenney first crossed paths while part of a small climbing expedition on Mount Rainier in the USA. When a dangerous storm rolled in, most of the group wisely turned back, but Jared and Diane decided to press on, convinced they were close enough to the summit to risk it. That single choice changed their lives forever. Strangers in the Storm: Love and Survival on Mount Rainier is a very accessible read; the story flows smoothly from start to finish. However, compared to other...

Strangers in the Storm: Love and Survival on Mount Rainier by Jared Rund captures the real-life modern romance of an adventurous couple who set out on a mountain climb as complete strangers. Through a series of unexpected twists, volatile weather, and miscalculations, they end up separated from their group and lost on the mountain. The narrative structure keeps things engaging by switching perspectives between him, her, and occasionally their friends. I have always loved reading non-fiction; whi...

Strangers in the Storm: Love and Survival on Mount Rainier by Jared Rund is such a gripping page-turner; I honestly couldn't put it down and finished the whole thing in one sitting. It tells the incredible true story of two strangers who find themselves trapped in a terrifying storm while climbing Mt. Rainier. I absolutely loved that it has a happy ending. If you are looking for a captivating survival story or a new book recommendation, this is a must-read.

***Note: I received a copy courtesy of NetGalley and BooksGoSocial in exchange for an honest review.Strangers in the Storm: Love and Survival on Mount Rainier by Jared Rund was a quick and enjoyable enough read. However, the story kind of lacks that gripping sense of suspense and urgency you’d expect from a survival tale. On top of that, many of the characters' decisions seemed downright foolish, which really took away from my overall enjoyment of the book. If you're looking for a new survival t...

I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. A couple of years ago, I developed a real fascination with mountain climbing books, particularly those about Everest. As someone who is middle-aged, completely out of shape, and terrified of heights, I love living vicariously through the adventures of others. This gripping true story, Strangers in the Storm: Love and Survival on Mount Rainier by Jared Rund, gave me absolute ...

A huge thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read and review this incredible true story, and a special shout-out to the authors who lived to tell the tale: Jared Rund and Diane McKenney, who are now husband and wife. I absolutely love a gripping adventure book, and Strangers in the Storm: Love and Survival on Mount Rainier was such an easy read that I found nearly impossible to put down. Jared and Diane share a harrowing, true experience that many simply don't survive—spending an entire night...

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of Strangers in the Storm: Love and Survival on Mount Rainier from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This book was so well written—in the style of a compelling novel—that I didn’t even realize it was a true story until I stumbled upon the actual photos. (I usually prefer fiction, but I must have selected this book based on the synopsis, which sounded fascinating. I’ve already suggested that my niece read this for her required nonfict...

On one of the hottest days of the year, I dove into this true adventure survival story and was swept away by the clarity of the inner and emotional worlds of two mountain climbers—Diane and Jared—who were caught in a brutal blizzard on Mount Rainier. Their inner quest for endurance on a legendary mountain is perfectly contrasted with the riveting, visceral details of the landscape, the ice, and the biting wind. This book can also be read as a cautionary handbook regarding the mistakes often made...
