Books like *Raising Hare: A Memoir* by Chloe Dalton are exactly why I'll never stop raving about and recommending non-fiction! There are so many true stories out there that are not only entertaining, but also educational, and in such an engaging way! I listened to this one on audio and absolutely loved the narrator. Plus, you get a bonus Q&A with Chloe Dalton at the end!

*Raising Hare: A Memoir* was such a lovely read. I’m a big fan of British nature writing, and Chloe Dalton’s style really impressed me: calm, thoughtful, and beautifully observant without ever feeling overdone. I loved how her personal experiences and the landscape just naturally fit together on the page.
Also, shoutout to the interview at the end with the audiobook narrator; it was a really fun, unexpected extra and made me appreciate *Raising Hare: A Memoir* even more. If you enjoy quie...

The connection we humans share with animals is something I’ve always felt deeply. I believe we have endless things to learn from the creatures around us, and we play a very special role in their lives, too. We have a responsibility to uphold: to protect and respect these animals and the lands they inhabit. Chloe Dalton is a perfect example of the kind of person the natural world needs. If you're looking for heartwarming animal stories, this is it.
In February 2021, Dalton found a newborn hare—a...

This book, *Raising Hare: A Memoir* by Chloe Dalton, is absolutely beautiful, delivering a message we all desperately need to hear. Like so many of us, Chloe Dalton was forced to slow down and reassess her life during the pandemic. She retreated to her converted barn in the countryside near London. Discovering and raising a baby hare was completely outside her comfort zone, but it ended up teaching her so much about herself, the natural world, and the vital importance of wildness within us all. ...

Like Dalton with her hare, I found *Raising Hare: A Memoir* in the wild and brought it home with me. Unlike Dalton, I am not fit to nurture as an exceptionally leaky Pancheros burrito marinated my copy that same day. I now have *Raising Hare: A Memoir* Con Jugo de Frijol.
Having said that, I did, years ago, frequently feed a rabbit I saw every morning upon returning home from work. I named him Günter Grass.
This touching memoir by Chloe Dalton is a must-read for anyone who loves animal storie...

This is such a wonderful story, and it went so far beyond my expectations. The anecdotes and unexpected twists and turns made reading "Raising Hare: A Memoir" by Chloe Dalton even more of a pleasure. I became so invested in this little hare that I had to pace myself while reading, constantly worried about its survival. But rest assured, all ends well! This isn't just a simple story about rescuing a hare; it's about what the hare (who is purposefully never named or treated like a pet) gave back t...

A lovely little tribute to the world we share with animals (especially hares). 🐰 👉 Check out my 2025 Women's Prize reads on BookTube. 📚🐛
"Each day brought new aspects of the growing leveret's behaviour at which to marvel, and I found myself drawn, against all my previous interests and inclinations, into the desire to discover everything I could about it."Chloe Dalton's life was upended when she stumbled upon an orphaned baby animal. She loves city life, and her career as a political advis...

My favorite chapter of Chloe Dalton's beautifully and sensitively written book, *Raising Hare: A Memoir*, is number three: “One Month Old: Little Hare.” In it, Dalton describes the difficulties she had finding any information on raising a hare. She searched especially for information on feeding and finally came upon poems William Cowper had written 250 years ago about raising a hare—a gift from the neighbor’s children while he was recovering from a bad breakup! She began to experiment with the i...

This is a tough one to review. I loved the subject matter, but the execution left me wanting more. Considering the other reviews, I think this might just be a case of Chloe Dalton's style not quite clicking with my personal taste, rather than anything fundamentally wrong with the book itself.
What worked for me:
🐇 The premise of "Raising Hare: A Memoir" was intriguing, and I was eager to hear about Chloe Dalton's experience. I appreciated that she didn’t just snatch up the baby hare but gave t...

Winner of the Wainwright Prize for nature writing 2025 😊😊😊Over the years, there have been some classic autobiographical books that have celebrated the human connection with the natural world – in particular with different animals. Classics that spring to mind include: *Ring of Bright Water* by Gavin Maxwell; *H is for Hawk* by Helen Macdonald; and *My Family and Other Animals* by Gerald Durrell.*Raising Hare: A Memoir* deserves to join this illustrious group. Chloe Dalton has written a highly...
