Known for her sardonic wit and her hysterically skewed outlook on life, Jenny Lawson has made millions of people question their own sanity, as they found themselves admitting that they, too, often wondered why Jesus wasn't classified as a zombie, or laughed to the point of bladder failure when she accidentally forgot t...

"In short? It is exhausting being me."
Jenny Lawson (the Bloggess) has lit up the literary scene with her debut novel - *Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir*.
Jenny lives the sort of life where... well... hmm... maybe you will just have to read this book yourself.
I really don't think I have anything that can adequately sum this one up...
Let's just say if you are a fan of taxidermied animals, heavily awkward moments, vindictive post-it note wars, crippling anxiety and fra...

“Because you are defined not by life's imperfect moments, but by your reaction to them. And because there is joy in embracing - rather than running from - the utter absurdity of life.”I read tons of memoirs, but something about Jenny Lawson’s *Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir* was different. REALLY DIFFERENT! It’s not just the messed-up lives thing, which seems to be a prerequisite for memoir writers. In case you were wondering, though, dysfunction *thrives* in this book. ...

First, I should mention that I listened to "Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir" on audiobook. Didn't read the text version. Second, the audio version is read by Jenny Lawson herself. I think Jenny did a nice job with it, too. If you're only used to professional audiobook narrators, there might be a few verbal quirks that could bug you. But me? For an autobiographical work like this? I'd much rather hear it in the author's own voice. Third, she actually made me laugh out loud...

JENNY LAWSON ATTACKED ME WITH A MACHETE!!Okay, so I've never met Jenny Lawson, and she didn't attack me with an actual machete, but I'm being metaphorical here, y'all.Because reading Jenny Lawson's book, Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir, made me feel as if I were being beaten with some kind of weapon, and it may as well have been a machete. Which is a word she uses in her book. She also likes the words chupacabra and vagina. And numerous swear words. She also likes postscr...

If you're hunting for a Sedaris replacement, sadly, this isn't it. Which is a real bummer, because I get the feeling Jenny Lawson had the potential (and the crazy life experiences) to absolutely nail this, but it just doesn't quite gel together as a whole.Jenny Lawson is undeniably funny. When she really gets rolling with a story, it's genuinely fantastic – but that's maybe 10% of the book, and the other 90% is just…meh. I can't shake the feeling this book was written in one long burst, with min...

Overall Rating: 1.5I don’t know if it’s a specifically American problem, but let me tell you, this is one of the worst memoirs I’ve ever read. (Seriously, America, do you honestly find this funny? O.o) And I’ll tell you why, and I’m not just saying this out of spite, okay? When I first heard about Jenny Lawson's *Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir*, I was actually excited. It sounded like a really good read *and* it had an awesome cover to boot.Almost immediately though, I re...

The best review I can give "Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir" is that, as a librarian, I'm practically buzzing with anticipation, waiting to hear what people will say after they've read Jenny Lawson's book. I'm expecting everything from the (yawn) "I appreciated its honest look at mental illness and survival" (which is spot on) to the (and I truly cannot wait for this) "YOU LET MY CHILD READ THIS, AND NOW THEY WANT A DEAD SQUIRREL PUPPET!" and "THIS BOOK IS BLASPHEMY, AND ...

Warning: Proceed with caution if you're easily offended. Seriously, no whiners allowed. I'm not kidding. Just... no whining. This is hands down the funniest, most outrageous memoir you'll ever read. Okay, technically it's not *just* outrageous, but Jenny Lawson talks about, well, *that* part of her anatomy more than anyone I know who actually *has* one. And frankly, I needed to put that out there upfront. So, if you're going to clutch your pearls, get it over with now and stay. away. from. *Let'...

I wrote this book, so I guess I'm obligated to like it. But I honestly think I would even if someone else had written it. Although, if they did, I'd probably sue them for stealing my life story.
How confusing is that?
Kind of like "Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir" by Jenny Lawson, actually. If you're looking for funny book reviews, this one definitely delivers a dose of delightful bewilderment.

**Edited... with content!**Watch your fucking back, Sloane Crosley... this lady is *funny*-funny, not "boys tell me I am funny at parties because I am pretty" funny.I am so glad that Kelly read this before me and it encouraged me to pick up my ARC and get into it far earlier than I ordinarily would have. BUT NOT EARLIER THAN I WOULD HAVE HAD I ACTUALLY WON THIS THROUGH THE FIRSTREADS PROGRAM, WHICH IS HOW THIS SHOULD HAVE GONE DOWN, GOODREADS! STOP WITH THE SNUBBING ALREADY!I had never heard of ...
